Baby S: 16 Weeks

Due date:  1/3/16

How far along:  16 weeks, Every Sunday is a new week for me.

Next appointment:  We had our 16 week appointment on Tuesday. Molly’s heartbeat was 153 BPM and the PA said that is perfect for where I am, then she said she sounds like a “happy baby in there!” Whether she could really tell that or not doesn’t matter, it made me feel great. After our appointment I was given a referral to schedule my next Ultrasound/NT scan (I think that is what it’s called?) so I have that booked for August 13th and cannot wait to see our baby girl. By the time we see her it will have been 10 weeks since our last US and so much has changed.

Total weight gain/loss:  So I know I said I lost 5lbs in the first trimester. Honestly, I do not know where I pulled that number from because when I was weighed at this appointment she said I haven’t gained anything except the 1lb I lost back at my 10 week appointment. Wishful thinking? Who knows but I am happy that I haven’t gained any weight thus far.

Exercise:  I was back in Tabata this week and it felt great, my muscles are still not too thrilled with me for pushing them but I am back in my routine, with modifications and loving it.



Maternity clothes:  I wore the Mets shirt I mentioned in last weeks update to the game on Monday and it was so comfortable! We have two more games this season, one in August and one in September so I can't wait to compare my bump in them all!

I ordered two dresses off of Zulily this week for an upcoming bachelorette weekend in August/rehearsal dinner in September. For the price I figured it was better to pick them up now rather than wait until last minute and stress myself out. Here’s hoping they look good when they get here.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases?  I designed and ordered my baby shower invites on Sunday because Zazzle was having an insane sale! Although the shower isn’t until the end of October it’s nice to have one more to-do crossed off the list.

Sleep: I spent almost every night falling asleep by 10:30 pm then waking up from 2:30-4:30 then sleeping again until 7:30. It sucks.

Food cravings:  Cold Honeycrisp apples, Synder’s Cheddar pretzel bites

Food aversions:  Raw/grilled/plain chicken, smell of BBQ/charcoal, red meat

Symptoms: I feel like this week was a symptom-heavy week. First off my skin has reverted itself back to my teenage years. I have been dealing with some pretty bad breakouts since the very beginning of this pregnancy and this week it came back and has been the worst yet. My entire face is broken out at the moment and I have been struggling with my self-esteem due to that but it will pass.
   My lower back has also been bothering me a decent amount. It’s easily thrown out of whack so the chairs at the baseball game Monday aggravated it and the discomfort continued on and off for the rest of the week. I am trying to incorporate some light stretching into my daily routine in hopes of avoiding this from happening the next 5 months.


Movement: My OB told me that I have a very long torso so Molly has a lot of extra room to grow and move which means it may be awhile before I actually feel her. I’ll admit I was kind of bummed when she said that but she quickly followed it with “It means you’ll have a much easier delivery.” To which Eddie and I both audibly cheered. I can’t wait until I feel her moving all around, even if it means discomfort for me I’ll be glad to know it means our little girl is happy and healthy.

What I'm looking forward to:  FALL. We had two really hot days this week, one was at the game on Monday and I was absolutely miserable. I can’t believe how easily I am affected by the heat these days, bring on cooler weather and football.

Best moment this week: Having a great appointment and hearing her strong heartbeat. So far pregnancy has been tough on me in the sense that I don’t know what’s really going on because I can’t see or feel her yet but I am hoping that will change in the next 2-3 weeks.

A Weekend Full of Food and Films



Oh Monday you always show up too soon. But lets relive the weekend in hopes of next weekend coming just a little bit faster.


Friday

After a really productive day at work I treated myself to Happy Hour.
Happy Hour Tabata that is. 

 I came thisclose to skipping class for the simple fact I was feeling lazy and my two gym buddies I take all my classes with weren't going to be there so I felt I didn't need to be.
Thankfully one of my best friends gave me the push I needed and I thought to myself  "I'm not just working out for me anymore," and that was all I needed to get out the door! Even with all of my current modifications I was able to burn 600 calories and felt amazing after.


Saturday 

I spent the morning relaxing and watching Parks and Recreation on TV. Around noon I decided it was time for an adventure so I headed to Fairfax which is about 30 minutes from us to check out the store Kirkland's
 Needless to say, as soon as I walked in I fell in love. It didn't help that the entire store was decorated for Fall aka my favorite season. 

 I left the store with this S for our front door because my summer wreath is becoming faded from the sun and it just looks sad. 


I also picked up a pink "C" tumbler specifically for the car because none of my beloved VS Pink water bottles fit in the cup holder and it makes me crazy. I have a thing for water bottles and tumblers, I collect them like I collect mugs... it's a problem.

Saturday night Eddie and I went out for a little impromptu date night at Tazza Kitchen which was a restaurant I stumbled upon earlier in the week.

 Although we didn't sit there, I loved the look of the bar. So much so I sent it to my mom letting her know we were coming during her next visit.





We started off with appetizers, guacamole for me and brick oven nachos for him. 


I fill up pretty quickly these days but that didn't stop me from ordering dinner because I knew it would turn into lunch the next day. I got the prosciutto & arugula pizza and Eddie got the steak with peppercorn potatoes.



Both meals surpassed our expectations and I cannot wait to go back!


Sunday

I originally planned to spend the day at the pool but once I stepped outside and felt just how hot it was my plans quickly changed to hiding in the AC. The heat gets to me so quickly these days, just walking to and from the car I start sweating and my energy is zapped. Yay Summer!

 While watching Crazy, Stupid Love I decided to try my hand at baking. For those of you who may not know, I loathe baking for the simple fact that you have to measure everything perfectly otherwise your cake won't rise or your cookies will suck.
I prefer cooking for the simple fact you can season as you please and it always works out one way or another.


I followed this recipe I found on Pinterest and it turned out better then expected. The entire house smelled like banana bread which was a nice added bonus which led me to googling " Banana Bread Candles." Yea I'm weird.

I spent the afternoon doing housework and watching the Mets beat the Dodgers before getting in the kitchen again to make us dinner. My cooking entertainment was "Wedding Crashers," oldie but a goodie!



Another Pinterest find, this Gnocchi with summer veggies dish was TO.DIE.FOR, we paired it with sausage that Eddie grilled up and both of us were oohing and ahhing throughout our entire meal. We will definitely be having this one again before Summer is over.


The night ended on the couch watching Big Brother and eating 2 of these bad boys.


 Big Brother fans, what the hell is Austin thinking? That Battle of the Block competition left Eddie and I both stressed out. Can't wait for Wednesday!

5 Favorites Friday #2




What. A. Week. For the first time in awhile we had something going on every day or night this week: Baseball game, 16 week appointment and then I spent most of my day yesterday in Balitmore which I'll talk more about at another time. For now, it's time to share my 5 favorites of the week!



woats Cookies 'n' Dreams

I first discovered these on the Instagram account "TargetDoesItAgain" and when I finally remembered to grab them on my recent trip there I was glad I did. These oat clusters are soft, chewy and the perfect addition to any yogurt or ice cream bowl, and just as good on their own.
They have a few other flavors as well but I haven't had a chance to try them as they are always out of stock!


CAM- Burning House


Since moving to Virginia I listen to a lot more country music then I did before and lately I am obsessed with two songs: Sam Hunt- Take Your Time and Cam- Burning House. There is just something about this song I cannot get enough of. If you haven't heard it yet check it out below.


BeMaternity Active Capris from Target




I wore these for the first time to the baseball game Monday night and then to Tabata class Wednesday night (I have two pairs) and I must say these are amazing. I have lots of room for the bump to grow and this particular style comes up in the front but is low in the back so there is no additional back sweat. Any mommys-to-be that are looking for a great pair of workout pants at a reasonable price, check these out!

Chobani Kids Banana
I came across these about a month ago and they have been in our house ever since. As a child I LOVED gogurts and these remind me of a much healthier version of that beloved snack. At this point in time I cannot leave the house without a water bottle and snacks because once I get hungry I must eat right then and there so these have been a life saver!

Baby S: 15 Weeks






I am so excited to start sharing weekly Baby S updates with all of you. Part of me wishes I had been documenting my pregnancy all along just for my own memories but I can't change the past so lets just focus on the now and the future. Every Sunday marks a new week for me so my updates will be posted on Tuesdays. I will be posting these a week behind so right now I am 16 weeks but I am sharing my 15 week update that way I have all of the details for the week in these posts.

What Fruit are you? Orange

Due date:  1/3/16

How far along:  15 weeks, Every Sunday is a new week for me.

Next appointment:   Our 16 week appointment is next Tuesday and I can't wait 
(today)

Gender:  It’s a GIRL! And her name is Molly Rae. When I was little, I had Molly the American Girl doll and have always loved the name so when I found out that is a family name on Eddie’s side I knew it was meant to be. Ray (Raymond) was my Poppa’s name and I've known I've wanted to honor him in some way with my children my entire life.
 We decided having a "y" in her first and middle name was too much so we changed it to an "e" and we think it's perfect.

Total weight gain/loss:  Not weighing myself at home but at my last appt. (12 weeks) I was up 1 lb from the 5 lbs. I lost in the first trimester.

Exercise: FINALLY got myself back in the gym this week after a three week hiatus due to feeling sick and traveling.  I went to my favorite spin class and it felt amazing. I found myself having to make some slight modifications like slowly getting in and out of the saddle but other than that everything went great!
I am so happy to feel more like myself again.


Stretch marks: Nope          

Swelling: Nope

Maternity clothes:  I bought myself two pairs of gym pants from Target. I wore my usual gym pants to spin and was uncomfortable the entire time so I knew I had to move into maternity pants going forward. 
I also picked up a Mets shirt because we are going to the game on Monday (last night) and have another in August, plus I knew Eddie would really appreciate it being that he's the Mets fan in the family.

Belly button:  In

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases? Little Molly is a very spoiled little girl already. Ever since I found out we were having a little girl at 11 weeks I have been picking up outfits almost every other week. It’s so hard to resist all of the cute dresses and pants with ruffle butts! The best part of having a baby due in early January is we are able to get clothes for every season at a discount. Below are just a few of the outfits I picked out from Carter’s when I was visting my mom and dad over 4th of July weekend.





Sleep: I have always been a terrible sleeper and pregnancy has only made things worse. Currently my sleep changes nightly. I usually get up 2-3 times to pee depending on how late in the day I drink water. The snoogle has definitely become my best friend, especially now that I am no longer allowed to sleep my back, I love it!

Food cravings:  French onion soup, cold apple slices or honey crisp apples, peaches-yellow not white, and peanut butter and jelly. But Thursday night I had not one but two dreams about donuts and for someone who has never really been into them I HAD to have one. Eddie, being the amazing husband he is brought home not just one, but a dozen for us to share.





Food aversions: (this is hard for me to even type because the thought is gag inducing) Raw or grilled chicken and the smell of BBQ/charcoal

Symptoms:  I suffered from some pretty bad headaches the beginning of this week and after a lot of internet research I figured out it was from lack of protein. 
I have been struggling with that a lot this pregnancy, meat of any kind just doesn't sound appealing. Thankfully I had black beans on hand and have been making taco salads almost daily for lunch and it's been saving me these last few days.

Movement:  I’m not sure, I think so but being that this is my first baby I don’t know what I am looking for.

What I'm looking forward to:  Hearing Molly’s heartbeat at our appointment  next week. And my bump really “popping”. Right now I feel like I look like I’ve eaten
too much/ have a beer belly.

Best moment this week: Putting together the crib, well watching Eddie do it, that was a hand me down from our neighbor back home AND getting a new car! I have needed a bigger, safer car for awhile and we finally bit the bullet and got ourselves a 2015 Honda CR-V, so far we are loving it.

5 Favorites Friday #1


 
Today I am bringing back Friday favorites with a little twist. Instead of sharing my favorite things from around the web, I am going to share 5 items, recipes, people, etc. I really am enjoying in my life at the moment.

So lets get into my very first, 5 Favorites Friday!




Chunky Peanut Butter

 

About three years ago I discovered almond butter and stopped eating PB cold turkey. Over time I developed a disgust towards all things peanut butter: candy, ice cream, proteins, etc.
However, that all changed two weeks ago when I got a strong craving for an english muffin with pb on top. 
Pregnancy cravings are weird.


Big Brother 17

Eddie and I look forward to this show every summer and it never disappoints.  It seems as though this season no body came to play it safe and they have gunned for the most threatening players from week one. The two people I didn't like in the house are already gone so from here on out I am destined for heartbreak but I am ready because I just can't get enough!

Honda CR-V


Earlier this week Eddie and I went to look at a new car for me/our growing family. I have been researching a few different models for awhile now but have always come back to the Honda CR-V. Little did we know we would be taking it home with us that night and now we have the perfect family car!


Snoogle


Although my bump hasn't officially "popped" yet the little one that I have has caused me some discomfort when trying to sleep and as someone who already has a lot of trouble sleeping/staying asleep this pillow has become a godsend. I never thought I would be a person who fell in love with a body pillow but the Snoogle is life changing.



Water Cooler


I understand how incredibly random this is but back in June when my parents were staying with us we started talking about getting a water cooler for our home. I had always thought they were very expensive so it wasn't in the cards for us but after my dad did the research for us (Thanks Dad!) we discovered that they are only $3 to rent and $7 per 5 gallon jug. Talk about a deal! I have always been a big water drinker and now that I am pregnant I find myself craving ice cold water all day, everyday so this little guy has become my BFF, next to the snoogle of course.

Where Have I Been?


For those of you who have been following this blog since the beginning, or even in recent months you probably have noticed my lack of posting. The truth is I started struggling to post regularly when I stopped working in NYC and took a job on Long Island. I had found happiness in my life and in turn, my life became busier. 

   I was working out 5-6 times a week, sometimes twice a day and when I wasn’t working or in the gym I was with family and friends soaking up every bit of life and my blogging fell to the wayside. I would still check in or do reviews periodically but nothing like I had done while sitting in my New York City cubicle. Fast forward to my abrupt move from Long Island to Virginia in September and that is when things on my corner of the internet really started to fall apart.
   It took me months to get used to my new life here and I spent many days struggling to even smile. In time I found my happiness again in my friends I have made and my new home at the gym, I found myself again.  
 
     In early April, we found out we were going to be adding a new member to our family early next year. So we yet again, abruptly moved. Thankfully, this time it was only two blocks away.  The move was more exhausting for me then I had originally anticipated and in turn I had stopped vlogging.
     Now here we are in the middle of July and I am currently 15 ½ weeks pregnant with a baby girl! We found out the gender very early on due to genetic testing and being the type A personality that I am, I wanted to know as soon as we could to prepare for our new addition.  Life has changed a lot for me over the last year and I am finally in a place where I feel ready to post regularly again. I want to be able to look back on my pregnancy journey, adjusting to our new life and milestones along the way. I want to review products, share recipes and workouts again. I just want to share my life with all of you, especially during such an exciting time. I am currently trying to create some sort of posting schedule but this blog that started as a health and fitness/weight loss blog will be focusing more on all aspects of my life going forward. I don’t plan on changing my Just Keep Sweating name anywhere but Instagram, which is now @Carlyn_Grace but I hope you’ll follow me on my new journey and wherever life takes us next!
