A Series of Unfortunate Events

I wrote this post for myself. To get my thoughts and feelings out of my system, this blog is my form of therapy and I need this outlet right now. That being said, I apologize in advance for all of the whining/complaining ahead, I won't blame you for not reading this post.
If you do read it, thank you for listening.

Have you ever had one of those days/weeks/months where it feels as though anything that could go wrong, did?

That's how I have felt these last two weeks. Before I go into all of the details, I want to say just how fortunate I feel that my little family, and immediate family are all happy and healthy. At the end of the day that's what truly matters, not all of the events that have been happening recently.

It all started two weeks ago with a bridesmaids dress that a bridal shop ordered the entirely wrong size for me. Long story short (4 seamstresses, countless phone calls/emails, tons of tears and a trip to David's bridal later) I was forced to drop out of one of my best friends weddings and the owner of the shop had the nerve to tell me I should have known better than to get pregnant when I was part of someones wedding. Funny how tough we are when we're not face to face with someone....
The entire ordeal was crushing because there is no higher honor then standing up there and witnessing the blessing that is marriage.

A few days later, last Tuesday to be exact, I noticed Max was having an issue with his eye. I knew immediately it was something serious and almost made the trip to an animal ER but thankfully my more rational half AKA Eddie talked me out of it. Turns out I was right, Max has an ulcer on his eye. It's been a week of round the clock drops + pain killers and although it looks better, I can still see it so I'm not sure what that means just yet but we find out Thursday morning if he will need surgery.

Please pray for him!
Oh, in between the bridesmaids dress and Max's eye ulcer our neighbor hit our brand new car backing out of his driveway. We found out by a nice note that was slid under our door.

On Friday I discovered my debit card had been compromised for the second time in two months. As the person who does all of the banking and bill paying in the house this was one huge pain in the ass because now I need to change the numbers EVERYWHERE.

This brings us to last night. Eddie and I went to check the mail to discover a TON and I mean a ton of bills we were not expecting. One being medical bill from genetic testing back in June that I was never told would be considered "out of network." Yes shame on me for not checking, but I had no idea and now I'm paying the price, literally. Then we received a property tax bill for one of our cars. As New Yorkers for our entire lives we are not used to this and it took us by total surprise... Yay? No.

And to end the night, Eddie suggested I go for a walk with Max to clear my mind a bit because I am an overly emotional, hormonal mess these days and he can't stand to see me so upset. While walking around our complex there were a ton of people out and about which is very common for our area, however, I noticed someone across the street walking with a scream mask and it just didn't add up. I kept going and made my way home, only to notice him again but this time it was just him and I and he stopped a few feet away from me and just stood there. I immediately became terrified (I HATE masks) and ran into our house and locked the doors.

 Wtf was this person doing?!
Why was he here?!
Why was he wearing a mask while the sun was still out?!

I had a full on panic attack after that and it resulted in Eddie calling to cops just to let them know what's going on.
Needless to say it's been a really rough two weeks for me, I would say for us, but Eddie handles everything so much better then I do.
I just want to know when I will catch a break.

Baby S: 23 Weeks

Catch Up on Previous Baby S Updates!

What fruit/vegetable are you? Papaya

Due date:  1/3/16

How far along:  23 weeks

Next appointment:   October 8thfor my Glucose test/ 27 week appt. AND it is my last appointment before starting to go every 2 weeks.. time is really starting to fly!

Total weight gain/loss 10 lbs! So 15lbs total and Molly weighs 1.2lbs. I know ten sounds like a lot of weight in a month but that’s 2 lbs a week and given the fact I hadn’t gained for almost 20 weeks my doctor said this is totally normal and right on track for a healthy pregnancy.

Exercise: Hiking with Eddie and prenatal yoga classes on the weekends. I am loving the change of my gym routine and exploring our area together!

Stretch marks: Before I lost my 60 lbs at the beginning of my weight loss journey I had strectch marks from my weight gain. Over time they have faded but now that my belly is growing I am noticing the old faded marks becoming more visible again. I am thankful there are no new ones as of now and I am hoping to keep it that way!

Swelling: Yes. This has become an issue for me when I am sitting upright for too long (long car rides, desk, etc) and we unforuntately had to leave the baseball game early due to horrible hip pain and swelling. We have a long car ride coming up in a few weeks and my doctor suggested stopping every hour or so to get out and walk for a bit to avoid further hip discomfort and for swelling to wear compression socks. Man I am a hottie!

Maternity clothes: I am OBSESSED with Target’s pants you can wear out in public but feel like sweats. I have no clue what they’re really called but I am LIVING in them.

These are the three pairs I am currently rotating (don't worry they do not come above my ankles!) and I definitely plan on buying more in the future. They'll be perfect post delivery as well.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases or Gifts? Molly's curtains! Although there is still a lot to do in her room it feels much more complete with her curtains hung.

Sleep: Terrible this week. I was up every night again for multiple hours mostly due to the fact I was worried about Max (our Shih Tzu) who suddenly developed an ulcer on his eye Tuesday night. The vet is hopeful it will clear up with medicine but I was just so concerned with him all week I couldn’t sleep.

Food cravings:  Olive garden salad and hot chocolate

Food aversions:  None, just the smell of BBQ/burning charcoal

Symptoms: Hormonal acne has come back yet again and overstayed its welcome as well as anxiety. I have found myself having waves of worry about labor and delivery, becoming a parent, if we will be good parents, etc.

What I'm looking forward to:   The start of my 10 week Prenatal Yoga class next week!

Best moment this week:  Late Saturday afternoon I was able to get the last prenatal massage appointment of the day. After a really rough week I felt like it may help me relax and hopefully sleep better.

Weekend Photo Dump

I started writing a weekend recap on Saturday and it was entirely too wordy and no one needs that nonsense on a Monday, so instead I am doing a photo dump/recap of my weekend. Less words, more pictures.

Posted this first thing on Instagram Saturday AM. After a long week I was looking forward to Prentatal Yoga

Saturday AM breakfast. I didn't finish the fruit but it was a nice addition to my morning and fuel for my workout.

No matter how hard I try not to be, I am always the first person anywhere I go.

After class I picked up a whole grain banana blueberry muffin to enjoy at home while watching TV and listening to the rain.

Speaking of rain, I used it to assist me in washing my poor yoga mat which was beaten up all summer during Tabata. Yes I sat out there in the pouring rain scrubbing it and it's STILL dirty. Any tips?

Saturday night Eddie and I went to Old Town because I found out one of our favorite candy shops from back home opened up last weekend. We went a little fudgin' crazy in there.

Post Prenatal Yoga hot chocolate and pumpkin muffin enjoyed outside in the cool, crisp air.

After almost a year of living in Alexandria I FINALLY found a nail salon!! Treated myself to a pedicure and gel manicure.

OPI's I'm not really a waitress (gel) and I got the same in my toes but spared you the photographic evidence ;)

After my busy morning I came home and cleaned the house + reorganized our kitchen cabinets.
It's crazy how much peace this brings me.

Our weekend ended on the couch with the windows open and candles lit watching football and Big Brother. For those of you that watched... WTF was Vanessa thinking?!

Hope you had as great a weekend as I did!

Baby S: 22 Weeks

Catch Up on Previous Baby S Updates!

What fruit/vegetable are you? Spaghetti Squash which seems HUGE to me!

Due date:  1/3/16

How far along:  22 weeks

Next appointment:  Next Wednesday for my 23 week appointment

Total weight gain/loss:  5 lbs total (I’m sure this will change when I get weighed next week)

--> After speaking with my doctor, Eddie and my mom I have made the decision to stop attending my Tabata classes until after Molly is here. As sad as I am to stop going it was becoming increasingly more difficult to modify everything and the entire class is very up and down which was also becoming troublesome for me. Instead I have signed up for a 10 week Prentatal Yoga class which starts 9/12 and I can’t wait! In addition to Yoga I will be doing spin and walking, all low impact workouts from here on out but still moving and sweating.

Stretch marks: Not yet, lets keep it that way body

Swelling: My fingers and feet swelled a few times this week, I am blaming the humidity because it came back with avengance in the earlier part of the week. WHERE IS THE FALL WEATHER!?

Maternity clothes: Labor Day sales got me in a BIG way this week. I bought myself 2 pairs of maternity jeans, 4 shirts (3 tee shirts, 2 tanks) and 3 pairs of dressier but super comfortable pants. I also put my winter coat, ew, on hold because I got a coupon for $30 “Bump Bucks” at Motherhood Maternity for having spent so much so I’ll pick that up at the end of the month. I have to say Jessica Simpsons maternity line at Motherhood Maternity (which is also carried at Macy’s!) is my new favorite thing.

I picked up this entire outfit at Motherhood Maternity, yay sales!

I ended up skipping out on the shorts but I did get the tank. I figured I could layer it throughout the fall and winter.

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases or Gifts? Yes! We got Molly’s dressers this week. One was a total impulse buy at Home Goods and I am absolutely in love with the piece I know it’s something she will have and use for years to come. The other dresser is this piece from Ikea which will also double as her changing table.

Her nursery is quickly becoming my favorite place in our home and I am finding myself spending more and more time in there, sometimes for no reason at all.
And YES I do plan on doing an entire post when the nursery is completely finished but that won’t be until after my baby shower is at the end of October.

Sleep:  Insomnia came back in a big way this week. I spent most nights up between the hours of 2am-430 am, easily my least favorite part of being pregnant.

Food cravings:  Greek yogurt with granola, Hot Chocolate, coleslaw, candy corn and French onion soup

Food aversions:  Nothing!

-Round ligament pain in my lower abdomen area, which is slightly uncomfortable especially if I get up or turn too quickly.
--> My skin has suddenly become as dry as a desert, there is not enough lotion in this house to make it come back to life!

Movement:  Much bigger and more constant kicks this week. With every day that passes I feel her more and more it’s amazing.

What I'm looking forward to:  Going to our last baseball game of the season next week! I can’t wait to compare my bump pictures from 15-20-23 weeks while cheering on the Mets.

Best moment this week:  There were a few:
-Eddie felt Molly kick for the very first time and seeing his face light up with excitement was definitely my favorite moment so far of this pregnancy, outside of finding out I was pregnant and that we were having a girl. I think it made things a little more real to him.

-My mom joined us for our follow up anatomy scan and it was so special to have her there with us. She never had ultrasounds when she was pregnant with me or my sister so it was her first time seeing one, it was a great day!

-Shopping with Eddie for furniture for Molly’s bedroom and moving pieces around to make sure they were just where I wanted them. Poor Eddie wasn’t too thrilled with me that day.

The Best Way to Celebrate An Anniversary

Yesterday was our two year wedding anniversary and it is amazing to think about how many things have changed for us since we said "I Do"

We moved to Virginia.
We moved twice in under a year since living in Alexandria.
We're expecting our first baby.
We bought our first car together.

And so many other things.

Our celebration was different this year but I wouldn't have changed anything about it.
We started our day by going to our follow up anatomy scan/ultrasound and we were fortunate enough to have my mom join us!

Had to snap a quick bump pic before leaving

The appointment was great but very long as Molly, yet again, wasn't cooperating for us or the technician. I really wanted to get a great 3D photo of her face as this is my last ultrasound until she is born but this was the best shot we could get:

Her hands are on either side of her face covering her ears and you can barely make out her eyes, nose and mouth but from what I see is she's adorable already!

After our lengthy appointment, Eddie made it very well known he wanted to visit Sugar Shack donuts in Old Town Alexandria and I wasn't about to turn down an opportunity for food or a hot chocolate so off we went.
Naturally we picked up a dozen donuts. For our first visit we went with: Maple Bacon, Samoa, Chocolate Butterfinger and Caramel Oreo

OMG they were all amazing. So bad for you but so worth it!

After our donut adventure we decided it would be a good idea to go out for a bite to eat, we had originally planned to BBQ at the house but since mom was only in town for the night and we were already in the Old Town area it seemed like the right thing to do.

Our restaurant of choice was one I have been dying to try for months, Virtue Feed & Grain which just so happens to be another farm to table eatery in our area.

I started out with the tomato bisque soup which was one of the specials for the evening and it was delicious.

For dinner I opted for the quinoa salad and added steak to it for extra protein however, after a donut and soup I was too full to eat it once it arrived so I will be having it for lunch today.

The portion was enormous considering it was an appetizer salad but I am looking forward to digging into it today!

Our night ended with exchanging gifts. The traditional 2nd year gift is cotton, I gave Eddie a new pair of Under Armour sweats + baseball tickets which was a tradition I started last year for the paper gift and he gave me the most beautiful customized pillow from an Etsy shop.

Of course I cried upon opening it because it was just so thoughtful and the anchor has an added significance for a few reasons which just made it that much more special.

All in all it was a perfect day from start to finish.
Here's to 498 more years just like it!

Baby S: 21 Weeks

These past few weeks have been so busy that I keep forgetting to snap a weekly bump picture! I hate not having anything to share/compare my growth week by week. Someone please remind me to do one for 22 weeks!

Catch Up on Previous Baby S Updates!

What fruit/vegetable are you? Banana

Due date:  1/3/16

How far along:  21 weeks

Next appointment:  Next Tuesday for our follow up ultrasound

Total weight gain/loss:  5 lbs

Exercise: Lots of walking and I was able to attend my favorite Kickboxing class back home while I was visiting for the weekend

Swelling:  After a long car ride my driving foot swelled up due to extreme hip pain, thankfully I was able to walk it off at rest stops and once we reached our destinations.

Maternity clothes: Nothing new

Any Baby/Pregnancy-Related Purchases or Gifts?  When I was visting my parents last week I spent entirely too much at the Carter’s Outlet as you can see below.

I also picked up three new books, two for me and one for Eddie.

Sleep:  I had a lot of sleep trouble this week outside of the usual 3-4 bathroom trips I  was dealing with lots of hip pain. I found I couldn’t stay on one side for too long without waking up with extreme achiness. Not fun.

Food cravings:  Hot Chocolate, coleslaw and French onion soup

Food aversions:  There were a few times this week I found myself wanting to try chicken dishes but I was too afraid that once I made it or it came to the table at the restaurant I would be instantly sick. I think this is progress?

Symptoms: Hip and lower back pain, fatigue and my bladder just seems to be getting smaller and smaller these days

Movement: Oh yea, Molly has become a little breakdancer especially after I eat! I cannot believe how much she moves around these days, it’s such a fun experience. I can’t wait for Eddie to be able to feel her as well.

What I'm looking forward to:  Our ultrasound appointment next week. My mom is going to be joining us and it’s her first time experiencing an ultrasound! It’s crazy to think she never had one while she was pregnant with my sister or I, it wasn’t something that doctors felt were necessary for everyone at that time.

Best moment this week:  Eddie and I made a visit to LI for a long weekend of visting our friends which was much needed for us both. I really enjoyed being back home, spending time at the beach and just relaxing/chatting with my best friends who I miss so much. Thankfully we’ll see them all again in a few weeks for a wedding!
