How Many Calories Did I Burn in 2014?

Happy New Years Eve!

When my first Erin Condren planner arrived in November of 2013 I wasn't quite sure how I wanted to use it. Originally it was going to be a place to document my daily food intake and any important dates that I needed to remember whether it was for work or my personal life.

Every time I hit the gym I have my trusty side kick with me, and by trusty side kick I mean my Polar FT4. I've always worn it during my classes to watch my HR, it helps me push myself harder but also know when to scale back. I almost always post post-workout pictures on my Instagram with how many calories I burned, a beautiful sweaty picture and sometimes I throw a motivational quote in there. I decided to take my documentation a step further in 2014 and started writing my calorie burns in my planner daily, then adding the totals up at the end of the week.

At first I wasn't sure I would keep up with this plan but here we are on December 31, 2014 and I have just finished my final workout of the year and put it into my planner.

So what did I burn in 2014?

181,838!

Here are my monthly totals broken down for the year:

When I started tallying my monthly burns I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of my year end total. I assumed somewhere in the 200,000 which I wasn't too far off from in the end, (now I have a goal for 2015) keeping in mind I had knee surgery in June and moved from Long Island to Virginia pretty abruptly in September.

April was my best month because that was the return of one of my favorite classes at my old gym, Power X. Every Wednesday I was doing 2-a-days Kickboxing in the morning, throwing around ViPRs and Battle Ropes in the evening.

October was my worst month because it was my first full month here in Virginia. I was trying to find my new "gym home" and ended up going with Planet Fitness which I despised. I forced myself to run and lift 5-6x a week for those 4 weeks and you can see by my single digit monthly burn total I was not enjoying myself.

I ended up going back to Long Island for 3 weeks in November which was the time I needed to digest the fact that I had moved to a new home in a new state and start an entirely new life. When I came back to Virginia, I joined The Energy Club gym the day before Thanksgiving and finally found my happy place.

So here I am, about to start a new year in a still relatively new to me place and I am ready to take on 2015. My total burn goal is 225,000. 43,162 calories more than I burned in 2014.
I know I can do it because now I am working towards something rather than just tracking what I was already doing.
My workouts have also changed in the last month, I am boxing twice a week instead of kickboxing 3-4x a week. I am spinning 2-3x a week and I have also started doing tabata.

I am excited to see where 2015 takes me and hope that this post may inspire you to track your calories burned, or miles ran.

Set a goal and surpass it!

The 12 Pics of Christmas

If you asked me a year ago if I thought I would be celebrating Christmas Eve in D.C and hosting my entire family for Christmas at my home in Virginia, I would have thought you were crazy.
But that is exactly what happened.

Lets recap the holiday with a new tradition, the 12 Pics of Christmas.

Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve I met my parents at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Pentagon City for a quiet but incredible dinner.

Lobby Decor

The Menu

From start to finish my meal was definitely one to remember, if you asked me to pick which was my favorite I'm not sure that I could.  Each dish was flavorful and had just enough food to leave you full, but wanting more.

After dinner we snuck into the mall to take a blurry selfie in front of Santa's tree while he was out delivering presents.

Christmas Day

Like most people, I tend to go all out when it comes to decorating for Christmas.
This year I went above and beyond, every corner of our little apartment was filled with merriment and Christmas cheer.

We hosted an Ugly Sweater brunch as well as dinner. By the end of the day I was very thankful for stretchy pants.

Ugly Sweater perfection.

Even the boys got in on the action, as an Elf and Christmas Tree.

In between eating we took break for the thing Christmas is really all about... presents!
These are just a few of the gifts Santa spoiled me with this year, I am so thankful for everything I received.

In between dinner and dessert we took a much needed Cards Against Humanity break.
However, Chance was not impressed with our humor.

Christmas 2014 was full of love, laughter and memories.
I hope it was the same for all of you.

Friday Favorites: Christmas Edition

Can you believe there are only 2 Fridays left until Christmas?
I haven't wrapped a single present yet, I should probably get on that.
But first, Friday Favorites.

Favorite DIY Decor: This Christmas card holder is perfect for any mantle, or if you're like me and don't have one, you can put it on top of a book shelf or bar!

Favorite "I wish I thought of that!": This WiFi printable is perfect for the Holidays when you constantly have guests in and out of your home, who want to save their data and use your WiFi. You could download a cute font, type in the password, print and frame.

You'll never have to answer that pesky "What's your WiFi password?" question again!

Favorite Dunk-A-Roo: I am obsessed with all things gingerbread at the moment, I just can't seem to get enough. So as I was planning my Christmas menu I came across this Gingerbread Dip and knew it had to be a part of our celebrations.

Favorite Must Have Item: Earlier this week I treated myself to one of the limited edition "Dot Collection" cups from Starbucks. I have been eyeing them ever since they debuted back in November and knew I would kick myself if I missed out on them.

This is the one I picked up, I am thinking of using it on my desk for a pen holder rather than a travel mug. But I hope Santa puts another one in my stocking because I love them all!

Favorite Brunch Bite: I will be hosting Christmas Brunch and Christmas Dinner, which means there will be a lot of eating happening in a very short period of time. However, I love the idea of a "bites brunch," instead of heavy casseroles or carby pancakes, why not have a bunch of bite sized breakfast foods!?

These burrito bites are not only cute, but perfect for school/work days as well.

Favorite Memory: My aunt started a Christmas Eve tradition of using ornaments as place cards on the table and it was something I always loved about the holiday at her Housee. I have decided to carry on this tradition now that I will be hosting the Christmas holidays at my house and loved this idea of writing the name and year on the ornament so those who receive them will always have that memory.

Favorite Sweaty Santa Workout: With all of the eating surrounding the Holidays and on Christmas Eve/Christmas day we tend to find many excuses NOT to workout.  This "Santa Six Pack Challenge" from The Fit Fork is easy enough to do anywhere that you no longer have an excuse to skip your workout.

Santa is always watching, after all.

Favorite Holi-Mani: This glittery Christmas tree manicure is so easy a caveman could do it....if they had nail polish.

All you need is a good nude color, two green polishes and tape of some kind to recreate this look.

Favorite Festive Printable: Everyone and their mother seems to be having Ugly Christmas Sweater parties these days, myself included.

Add some jingle to your jangle [ I don't know what that means] with this free printable from Printabelle!

Favorite Christmas Jam: I have to admit, this year I am just NOT into Christmas music. It may be the fact that commercials have played out every song imaginable before Thanksgiving OR I may be Scrooge. We're not sure yet.

If I had to pick one song to listen to this Holiday season it would be Idina Menzel and Michael Buble's rendition of "Baby it's Cold Outside"

Happy Holidays!

Red Velvet Protein Pancakes

Protein pancakes have been my go to breakfast for years now, and although I go through phases of having them daily then not having them for a month or so at a time, I still love them all the same.

Cellucor is my favorite protein powder, our cabinets are full of their products. Cinnamon Swirl is my all time favorite, but then I got my hands on the Red Velvet Cake Batter...it's life changing you guys.

For this recipe all you need is RV protein powder, 1/3 cup of egg whites and 1 cup of almond milk.
I topped my pancakes with a little bit of light cream cheese, which really made it feel like I was eating cake for breakfast.

I put all of my ingredients, except the cream cheese into my Nutribullet and blended until the batter was smooth. I find it's easier to cook the pancakes when they're all the same size and have the same consistency.

These are definitely going to become part of my procake rotation. I am also going to try and make protein cookies or cupcakes for Christmas using this flavor.

What's your favorite breakfast?

JKS Makeover & Weekend Recap!

This weekend was full of new things, including a makeover here on Just Keep Sweating! I am so thankful I chose to work with Jane of Poppiness Designs, she was able to take my very poorly explained vision and make my little corner of the internet somewhere I want to be.

I loved my original design but it started to feel stale and almost childish to me, I needed something that didn't pigeon hole my blog to just fitness anymore. In 2015 I'd like to cover all aspects of my life and although I am not changing my blog name, I feel like I can share more now because my look is different. If that makes any sense....

Friday

I started my day bright and early with a 6 am Energy HIIT class at my gym. We did a lot of heavy weight lifting and it felt great to have my workout out of the way before 7!

After work I took a little adventure to Arlington to do some Christmas shopping. Little did I know I would end up finding more gifts for myself then for others, whoops!

Walking into LuluLemon is always dangerous, I almost made it out of the store empty handed until I found the sale rack.
This sweatshirt was right there waiting for me, knowing I couldn't resist. It was originally priced at $118 but I ended up taking it home for $49!

After doing damage at LL I popped over to Crate and Barrel. I am hosting Christmas Eve and Christmas at my place so I am constantly on the hunt for more festive decor [ not that we can fit anymore in our house at this point]  While looking I came across the "Olivia Pope" wine glasses, Scandal fans you know what I'm talking about.

They are just as beautiful in person as they are on TV, but with their long, thin stems I decided it was best to leave them behind because I would probably break them before even getting out of the store.

I did however find myself my new favorite mug.

I regret not picking up more then one because it's the only mug I want to use now!

Saturday

My gym class on Saturdays doesn't start until 11:45 so I took the extra AM time to go to the food store and make myself a nice hearty breakfast.

This almond butter is probably the greatest thing to ever exist, if you find it you need to buy it, you will not be sorry.

I took my very first combat boxing class and holy moly it was the hardest workout I've done in years. I felt so out of shape, but it also left me craving more. I love a good challenge and this definitely gave me even more motivation to try new classes at my gym.

You can see the exhaustion in my face.

The rest of the day was spent happily on the couch watching Parks and Recreation, and catching up on American Horror Story Freakshow. Did anyone see this weeks episode? OMG it was intense.

Sunday

Another workout bright and early, this time I took Tabata which has quickly become my favorite workout.  For the first time since before my knee surgery I was able to do burpees, while this is probably everyone's least favorite workout move, I was thrilled because it meant MAJOR progress.

After the gym I picked myself up some new fitgear in the form of pink boxing gloves. I was instantly hooked on the class I tried Saturday but didn't love the idea of putting on the gyms gloves, sweaty germs? No thanks.

Plus I'll take any excuse to buy something pink!

Eddie and I have made a vow to go to new places every week since moving to Alexandria. This week we went to the DogFish Head Ale House and it did not disappoint.

Being a good sport, I went for a beer sampler and out of the four I tried I fell in love with the "American Beauty" IPA.

Eddie snapped this candid shot of me trying his choice, 61, which ended up being my second favorite of the four.

After filling ourselves with lots of yummy, but bad-for-you foods, we went home and watched Horrible Bosses. My first time, his second and we both loved it.

Our night ended with watching " Eaten Alive," which was the biggest waste of two hours of my life, I should have stuck with my original plan of watching Elf!

How was your weekend? What did you do?
