Friday Favorites- Week of 1/20-1/24

Thank you for the outpouring of love the past few days across all of my social media channels. You guys have made this a little bit easier on me and I appreciate it.

TGIF

Favorite Gym Outfit: Lets be serious, I would never wear shorts to the gym but I want everything in this photo for the simple fact that it is all PINK.

Favorite MUST MAKE ASAP Recipe: Cake Batter Energy Bars from Chocolate Covered Katie
I have plans to pick up the ingredients for these right after work!

Favorite Photo Display Idea: I'm not sure where I would put this if I did recreate it but I absolutely love the idea of taking my Instagram photos, having them printed and put on display in my home.

Favorite Clothing Item on My Wishlist: I saw this sweater on my friend Gina's Instagram yesterday and immediately took to the Internet to hunt it down. Much to my surprised it is being sold on Love Culture's website and its only $20! My birthday is March 6... just saying

Favorite Living Room Decor: Cozy. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I look at this photo. Want, is the second.

Favorite Water Bottle: Mugs and Water bottles are things I tend to obsess over. I constantly find myself pining over new/ cute ones all of the time. This one is just so me, I must have it!

Favorite Holiday Printable: For Christmas I printed out an adorable glitter quote and framed it for our bar area. Now it has kind of become a trend in our home and I wasted no time finding one for Valentine's Day!

Favorite Mug: The mug says it all. Again, my birthday is March 6...just a reminder

Favorite Update: The Just Keep Sweating shop has been given a complete overhaul and has 4 new designs on a lot of different products. I now have sweatshirts, workout tanks, water bottles, iPhone cases and more. I am so in love the new look and cannot wait to give my blog a much needed face lift very soon!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Heartbreak

For the most part January has not been so kind to me.

It started off with the Detox which made my body hate me and then I came down with a nasty case of the Norovirus which stuck with me for almost an entire week.

I've never experienced a sickness quite like that and I hope to avoid doing so in the future.

Meeting Jillian Michaels was definitely the highlight of this month and for me it was a dream come true! I figured that would be the moment that turned this month around but then Eddie came down with the virus and it was worse then I had!

Last but not least yesterday we lost our beloved family dog Brandy after 16 years.
I was lucky enough to be with my mom and her when it happened due to a snow storm the night before.

Words cannot express the heartbreak I am feeling at this moment but I am also happy it went the way it did.
She wasn't sick.
She wasn't suffering.
She lived the best life she could have ever wanted.
And she passed in her home, wrapped in a blanket and the warmth of her mothers arms.

As much as we all will miss her I know she is in a better place.

For now, I am just wishing for this month to end and for a fresh start in February.

A Dream Come True

In my almost four years of blogging I have been fortunate to have opportunities offered to me I could have never dreamed of.

For starters I attended Bob Harper's book release party , I cooked in the kitchens at McCormick, and I worked out with Nike in Jets Stadium [or Giants if you're one of those fans] just to name a few.

Yesterday I was given an opportunity I thought would never EVER be possible.
I met and worked out with Jillian Michaels, or as she is lovingly referred to on this blog " My BFF Jill." For as long as I can remember I have loved her, shes tough but cares about getting to the root of her clients issues. Her podcasts are a weekly must listen for me and I've even written posts about them in the past, admitting that l take notes while listening.

But to meet her?
Workout with her?
Again it's something I still cannot comprehend and it's already happened.

I woke up at 5 am like I was a kid on Christmas morning and picked out my outfit.
Obviously I think of only the important details.
I decided to rep myself and Delta Labs, two things I love, in addition to my BFF Jill and working out of course.

I arrived at the NYC location about 45 minutes early so I had a chance to look around at what I was getting myself into and mentally prepare for what was ahead.

Thankfully my mom belonged to a Curves-like gym when I was in high school and I tagged along with her on one of her workouts so I knew how this type of circuit training would go. I remembered thinking the workout was extremely boring and not effective, but I was also a bitter teenager who hated working out.

My how things change.

Eventually everyone started to arrive and much to my surprise there weren't that many bloggers in attendance, it was more press/magazines. Jillian came out, we all cheered and she got right down to business.

She explained how she has changed the structure of Curves workouts and replaced the time that you would be "resting" in between your machine sets with core and cardio moves on yoga mats. The goal is to get in, get sweaty and get out in 30 minutes.

The workouts on the mats were most definitely more Jillian Michaels style and I found them to be the most challenging. We did push ups, jumping jacks, squat jumps, skaters, prisoner squats, prisoner lunges, high knees and butt kicks.

The machines were much less challenging and quite frankly difficult to figure out. Thankfully there were a bunch of Curves trainers on hand to help us and once I got the hang of what I was doing [after the first round of the circuit] I was able to kick it up a notch and get my sweat on.

By the end of the 30 minutes I was dripping.

I totally did NOT expect that to happen when I walked into the event at the beginning of the day, I even told Jillian that when I had the chance to meet and speak with her quickly before she jetted back to LA.

Jillian was funny, cool and yelled just like she does on Biggest Loser.
I loved every second of the hour I got to spend with her yesterday, and it will be something I remember forever.

Major Detox Fail

Happy 2014!

I can't believe it's taken me this long to post my body comparison pictures from 2012 VS 2013 and the last 4 years as I have done every New Years Eve. 2013 was a huge year for slacking off on my blog between wedding planning, moving, starting a new job and daily vlogging I just couldn't find the motivation to write.

My goal is [ as it has been for months] to get back on track and stay consistent with at least 2 posts a week, but don't hold me to it!

As you can see there aren't huge changes to my body from 12/31/12 to 12/31/13 and that is because as soon as the wedding was over I let myself stop caring so much about how healthy/clean I was eating as long as I kept up with my workouts.

2010-2013 from left to right

I kicked off 2014 with a Kickboxing class that was unfortunately cut short due to a medical emergency [all is okay!] and a serious detox.

The detox was a program offered through my gym and it was meant to cleanse your liver and colon along with your body of all sugar and carbs.

No fruit, potatoes of any kind, beef or beans are allowed.
Which left me with chicken, vegetables and protein powder, because I don't eat seafood, turkey or pork.
I'm extremely picky with what I eat which tends to make meals difficult for me and why I avoid most "diets"

January 1/Day 1 I felt great and was ready to tackle all two weeks of this detox.

January 2/Day 2: I was able to make up for the kickboxing workout that was cut short and kicked some major booty. This was also the night of the blizzard so I had embedded the fact I wouldn't get to the gym the next day into the back of my mind.
Still felt okay on the detox, my energy and mood was normal.

January 3/ Day 3: SNOW DAY! As expected the gym and work was closed so I took that time to try out a new to me app: Yogify. I LOVE doing yoga in my home and have made it a goal to practice there at least once a week.

Detox was reallllllly hard for me this day, mainly because I was trapped inside all day surrounded by things I couldn't eat. It got to the point Eddie took all of those things and locked them in his gym back with a lock I didn't know the combination to.
He's the best

January 4/ Day 4: Getting to my Jump & Drill class was hard this morning because of the frigid temperatures. When I went to warm up my car it was 0 degrees! However I went in and kicked as much butt as I could.

I felt like I had almost no energy during class. I thought it may have been because I didn't have coffee or G-Fuel before class but thinking back on it it was because I wasn't properly nourished.

I spent most of the day on the couch completely exhausted and useless. It was awful for someone like me who is usually GO GO GO!

January 5/ Day 5: I lifted for 30 minutes on my own before Kickboxing and really pushed myself. Throughout the class I kept getting lightheaded and felt like I wasn't giving the workout my all. Sure there are times I am tired or hungover in this class and can always push through, but this was different. I actually walked out three different times during the hour long class just to feel better.
There was a banana sitting on the ledge at the back of the class and I had the strongest urge just to steal it haha!

I attended a fundraiser shortly after the gym at a bowling alley and was surrounded by unlimited pizza and my favorite Baked by Melissa cupcakes but resisted all of the temptation regardless of how hungry I was I wasn't going to blow it.

After the fundraiser I went to target but didn't really have any focus while I was shopping because I was so exhausted and hungry so I ended up with a bunch of things I didn't need.
They sure are cute though!

By 3 pm on Sunday I was sitting on the couch totally zonked and I said to Eddie, I need chips.
I can't do this anymore, unlock the gym bag and give me them.

He was hesitant because I told him before this started do not give in to me, make me stick to it. But he after looking at me and saying "You look like hell," [he meant it in the nicest way] he obliged and I had a few chips, instantly feeling better.

I lasted 4 1/2 days on this crash detox and can honestly say I'll NEVER try it again.
I deprived my body of so many nutrients it needed and for what?
To prove to myself  I could do it?
To lose a few holiday pounds?

Upon further research and after speaking to my mom I realized I wasn't doing it the correct way, there were supplements I was supposed to be taking to make up for the things I wasn't eating which may be why I felt how I felt.
Either way lesson learned and I'll make sure to do all of my research before starting anything like this in the future! Now I am focusing on eating clean and following the Tone It Up plan like I did a few years ago.

Eat right and Just Keep Sweating.
That's the name of the game for 2014
