In my almost four years of blogging I have been fortunate to have opportunities offered to me I could have never dreamed of.
For starters I attended Bob Harper's book release party , I cooked in the kitchens at McCormick, and I worked out with Nike in Jets Stadium [or Giants if you're one of those fans] just to name a few.
Yesterday I was given an opportunity I thought would never EVER be possible.
I met and worked out with Jillian Michaels, or as she is lovingly referred to on this blog " My BFF Jill." For as long as I can remember I have loved her, shes tough but cares about getting to the root of her clients issues. Her podcasts are a weekly must listen for me and I've even written posts about them in the past, admitting that l take notes while listening.
But to meet her?
Workout with her?
Again it's something I still cannot comprehend and it's already happened.
I woke up at 5 am like I was a kid on Christmas morning and picked out my outfit.
Obviously I think of only the important details.
I decided to rep myself and Delta Labs, two things I love, in addition to my BFF Jill and working out of course.
I arrived at the NYC location about 45 minutes early so I had a chance to look around at what I was getting myself into and mentally prepare for what was ahead.
Thankfully my mom belonged to a Curves-like gym when I was in high school and I tagged along with her on one of her workouts so I knew how this type of circuit training would go. I remembered thinking the workout was extremely boring and not effective, but I was also a bitter teenager who hated working out.
My how things change.
Eventually everyone started to arrive and much to my surprise there weren't that many bloggers in attendance, it was more press/magazines. Jillian came out, we all cheered and she got right down to business.
She explained how she has changed the structure of Curves workouts and replaced the time that you would be "resting" in between your machine sets with core and cardio moves on yoga mats. The goal is to get in, get sweaty and get out in 30 minutes.
The workouts on the mats were most definitely more Jillian Michaels style and I found them to be the most challenging. We did push ups, jumping jacks, squat jumps, skaters, prisoner squats, prisoner lunges, high knees and butt kicks.
The machines were much less challenging and quite frankly difficult to figure out. Thankfully there were a bunch of Curves trainers on hand to help us and once I got the hang of what I was doing [after the first round of the circuit] I was able to kick it up a notch and get my sweat on.
By the end of the 30 minutes I was dripping.
I totally did NOT expect that to happen when I walked into the event at the beginning of the day, I even told Jillian that when I had the chance to meet and speak with her quickly before she jetted back to LA.
Jillian was funny, cool and yelled just like she does on Biggest Loser.
I loved every second of the hour I got to spend with her yesterday, and it will be something I remember forever.
