Step Your Game Up - New Circuit!

Christmas has come and gone and that means its almost time to start a new year.

I am not really great with making or keeping resolutions so I don't think I'll make one for 2014, however I do want to refocus myself on eating clean-er and tracking my foods for awhile.
As I previously mentioned I feel as though I've gotten way off track and I don't like how I look or feel at the moment and that is NOT okay.

Yesterday was my first time in the gym since Monday. I generally take only one rest day a week and that is Friday but our gym closed early for Christmas Eve and remained close through Christmas Day. I could have worked out at home, on my own, but lets be serious... I'm just not that type of person. I wish I was but I'm not.

Instead I ate my face off with every bad for me food there was available and drank too much wine along with not working out.
Horrible combination.

Thankfully I got my booty to the gym and took the same bootcamp class I did last week but this time it was a different instructor and she kicked our butts just as much as the other one did the week before.

We started the class with warm ups going across the room: lunges, lateral moves, and ended with my favorite high school sports throwback: suicides.

After warming up we got into the circuits: 4 moves, 4 rounds, done twice.
We used steps with 6 risers, 8lb & 5lb weights, and a stability ball.
By the end of the class I was exhausted, but I think that was due to lack of sleep this week- eating poorly and being out of the gym for two days.

If you're looking for a fun, challenging workout I definitely suggest trying this one out. Let me know if you do!

No Lift, No Gift

Although I didn't get myself in gear for the 7 am Yoga class like I had originally planned for yesterday I did make it to my usual Monday night weight class.

I was feeling the burn and today I am feeling the soreness for sure.
Since I lifted I expect to be gifted from Mr. Claus!

After the gym I popped into the local health food shop for one item specifically and I was excited to see that they had it.

Chance is never to far away from any kind of food

I do not have a gluten allergy or wheat intolerance but the ingredients in each of these packets are 100% clean and all natural which was why I wanted to have them on hand. I split the box between work and home so I'll never have to worry about not having something for a quick breakfast.

This morning I tried the banana maple with one tablespoon of almond butter mixed in for extra protein and it was a delicious breakfast for only 270 calories!

For dinner last night I had originally planned on making a protein shake with a side of homemade kale chips but instead I went with an old favorite, Kale Chips and Dippy Eggs.

Right now I am getting myself ready to tackle the day. I have work for a few hours this morning then I have a lot of Christmas Day food shopping and errands to do. Thankfully I made my lists, and checked them twice before taping them on to my beloved Life Planner.

The fact that it is a little larger in size makes it easy to just prop up on top of my bag in the shopping cart while running errands and I can just cross things off as I grab them.

I love lists and being organized.
I've turned into my mother.

Tonight I will be attending a Christmas Eve Ugly Sweater dinner party and I can't wait to show you guys my outfit in tomorrows post OR you'll have already seen it in my Instagram picture I'll be posting later on.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Family, Friends, and Food

Unlike most of the people I know I had to work on Friday [and all of this week, outside of Christmas Day] so I got myself up and ready to take on the day.

I have had this outfit idea in the back of my mind for awhile now, I felt like Friday was the day to rock and judging from all of the comments/likes on Instagram you guys enjoyed it as much as I did!

For lunch I hit my favorite deli/bagel shop for one of their delicious chopped salads
In the bowl: Romaine, Feta, Cranberries, Walnuts, Grilled Chicken, Bacon and Balsamic Vinaigrette

I will definitely be recreating this at home, it was SO good!

After work I met up with my mom, Eddie and cousins for dinner at my favorite place in town, Del Fuego! Everyone is home for the holidays so it was nice to get together
My cousin Hope made this Christmas tree card and it was so cute we decided to use it as decor during our meal.

I wasn't going to drink but suddenly had an overwhelming urge for a bloody mary so I went with it and boy was I glad I did. It was one of the best I've ever had.
I couldn't resist the opportunity to take a picture of my drink smiling at me.

I was up and in the gym bright and early for Jump and Drill.
Becky and I decided to set a goal of burning 700 calories in that class in the new year. It may be tough but I have a feeling we'll be able to do it.

I spent most of the day on the couch because we were heading into NYC for dinner and karaoke for a friends birthday and our reservations weren't until 9 pm [SUPER LATE for this grandma] so I wanted to relax as much as possible so I could hang all night.
Outfit of the Night, not my best angle but that's okay!

Eddie wanted to get in on the fun too
My husband is so handsome!

We had an absolute BLAST at dinner, I think I did 6 or 7 sake bombs in an hour? Yea not my wisest decision and I paid for that all day on Sunday.

I woke up around 9 am, which is unheard of for me, but we got home after 3 so I guess I needed the extra sleep. The majority of the day was spent regretting all of the sake bombs I had done the night before while laying on the couch.

This is what breakfast looked like...

Around 5:30 pm I started feeling more like myself again so I took advantage of it and meal prepped my lunches for Monday and Tuesday while helping Eddie make our dinner for that night.

Sweet potato mash, roasted brussels and baked chicken breasts are on the menu this week.

Dinner was the most incredible bacon cheeseburger I  have ever had. Major props to the chef!
I promise there is a delicious burger under the piece of bacon and slice of cheese.

This morning I woke up and decided I need to start getting myself ready to track my meals again.
I am going to be using my Erin Condren Life Planner to help me keep track of what I am eating in the New Year because I feel as if I have gotten WAYYYY off track the past several months and gained some weight back I had lost.

2014 is going to be about losing the rest of the weight and getting in even better shape.
I'll be revisiting my Tone It Up meal plan as well as spending more time meal prepping healthy, clean eats starting January 2nd.

I know I feel best when I eat right but during the holiday season it feels almost impossible to be on the straight and narrow all day, everyday.

To new beginnings!

Christmas Cardio [New Circuit!]

Last night I took a boot camp style class at my gym and LOVED it! I was pushed way outside of my comfort zone with a lot of the moves and my body is feeling it today.

I'm not quite sure how, but I remembered the entire workout from start to finish.
The first 15 minutes of class we did some cardio kickboxing moves for a warm up then we moved into our boot camp workout.

4 different moves for 4 rounds, repeated twice.
Each move was done for one minute with a 15-30 second rest before moving on to the next one.
In some cases we were on one leg or one arm so we repeated the move on the other side before moving on.

Here's what the workout looked like:
[Click to view it full size]

For the weighted portions I used 8lb dumbbells but you could use ANY weight you are comfortable with, or none at all. There are always options for modifications for any workout.

After we finished our circuits we finished up with some abs and a quick stretch before heading home.
700 calories burned!
It was an amazing class and I will definitely be going back on the weeks I don't kickbox because if there is one thing I know about this teacher its she doesn't like to do the same things every class and when it comes to working out, change is not only good, but important.

Christmas Party!

Tuesday night was the Delta Labs/Gamma Labs Christmas dinner.
In the past I have dreaded having to spend time with co-workers outside of work... probably because I was unhappy where I was but that was not the case this year.
I was actually excited!

I had my outfit, accessories and nails ready to go the night before just so I wouldn't be scrambling the morning/day of.

Debbie [my boss] and I arrived at the restaurant early to set up the name tags she made for everyone and to have a much needed holiday cocktail!

We had a private room and it was absolutely beautiful, everything from the fireplace to the menu was perfect.

Speaking of menu we had some of the most delicious food anyone could ask for.

We started with passing appetizers: Sliders, pigs in a blanket, grilled cheese and chicken skewers.
In between cocktail hour and our first course they brought out five seafood towers, which was a huge hit with everyone.
Our first course was a choice between crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, tempura artichoke hearts [which I chose] or a goat cheese tart.

The second course was a choice of salad, I went with the house salad that had bacon, pears, a stinky cheese I didn't eat and honey mustard dressing.

For dinner I went with Filet Mignon and it was the BEST steak I've ever had.
Eddie was so upset when I told him this was the leftovers I was bringing home to him:

Sorry pal!

The entire night was filled with good food and great people.
Exactly what the holidays are all about!

Let Each Breath Change You

Yesterday my alarm went off at 5:30 am, which hasn't happened in a long time but I wanted to start my week of the best way possible... on the mat.

My yoga mat that is

There is a great 7 am class at my gym but getting out of bed and out of the house by 6:45 am in freezing weather is one of the hardest tasks.
I did it.
It wasn't easy but I did it.

The instructor that teaches the class is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and that says a lot because this was only my second practice with her. I love the stories she tells before/after class and the quotes she shares. Yesterday she said something that really resonated with me but I couldn't remember it word for word so I came up with my own version.

No matter what you're doing: Working, Cooking, Yoga, Running, Playing, etc.
Try and keep this with you.
Every moment is precious and things can change at any time, you just never know.

After work I planned on taking my usual Monday night total body weight class but since there was a sub teaching I decided to go home bake cookies and make dinner for Eddie and I instead. Making dinner [especially during the week] is almost unheard of for me, either he cooks or I have a protein shake, so to be able to bake and cook for him was a really nice change of pace.

For dinner I made grilled chicken, sauteed spinach topped with melted feta cheese.
Although the cheese sauce was time consuming because it required the double boiler method,
After dinner we settled in for The Voice final performances.

If you watch who do you think is going to win?
We both really want Jacquie Lee but I have a sneaking suspicion Tessanne will. As of now she her performances are #1 and #4 on the iTunes charts.

Fingers crossed for Team Christina!!

No Day But Today

I was up and in the gym by 7:45 for my Jump & Drill class, my knee is finally feeling better after a week of lower intensity workouts so that was a nice bonus to a good burn. After class Becky and I used some of the leg machines so I can start focusing on building up the muscles around my meniscus and in my knee to avoid further injury which I was told when I went to PT last year but never followed through with.

After the gym I stopped at the food store quick to pick up some firewood and snacks for girls night that would be happening later that day, but had to hurry because Eddie and I had a very special delivery coming!

My parents bought us a new bed for Christmas and now our bedroom transformation is finally complete! I just want to get a few things for the wall and all will be finished :)

The rest of the day on Saturday was spent baking what felt like endless amounts of cookies with my mom.
We had a great time spending the day together but neither one of us actually enjoys baking so it turned into more of a hassle then a relaxing experience.
I'll stick to cooking in the future.

Saturday night the girls came over, we exchanged Christmas gifts and I got a sweater I have been wanting for MONTHS from our gym, I just couldn't justify spending the money on it for myself, so thankfully they did it for me!

After our gift exchange we watched the Little Mermaid, drank some wine, ate some snacks and did acro yoga by the fire.

 Followed by a sleepover.
An awesome Saturday night if you ask me.

We were up and in the gym by 8 am for our usual arms, abs and kickboxing.
Even though the fans were on high and the room wasn't as crowded as it usually is we managed to fog all of the mirrors and sweat like crazy.
It was an intense workout to say the least.

Thankfully following the gym we had a big family brunch planned and I basically spent the entire time eating back all of the calories I burned and then some. On my way home I popped into Target quick and I was so glad I did when I came across these in the dollar spot.
They were $3 [ I hate how they mix the $1 and $3 items] and worth every penny.

By the time I got home it was around 4:30 and I immediately climbed into bed where I stayed for the rest of the night catching up on Homeland [OMG the finale!? WTF!?] and I also watched an Idina Menzel special I had DVRed last week.

One of the songs she sang was "Another Day" from my favorite musical of all time, RENT. Before she got into the song she gave a little background on the story behind RENT and Jonathon Larson, the man who wrote the screen play. As someone who has seen the show multiple times, owns the movie and a live performance DVD, books, etc. This really hit home for me and inspired me to share one of the many great quotes from the show with all of you.
