The Great Debate of 2013




Well last night things got a little hairy over on my facebook page.


I posted this status after an annoying run in with someone during a gym class:

If you show up to the gym in a "workout" skirt with your hair done, full face of makeup and perfume just do yourself a favor and quit while you're ahead. You're not fooling anyone but yourself.


I'll admit it was a little on the nasty side, especially for my page which has ALWAYS been positive place for the past 2 years. BUT that does not mean I don't have negative/rude things that pop up in my brain from time to time or all of the time, I just don't always share them.


This status resulted in a slew of arguments in the comment section, one person in particular called me a rude, snarky, judgemental jerk.

This didn't bother me one bit. Why? Because EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion and can say what they want, whenever they want. Which is exactly what I did on MY page.

In reality you wearing makeup to the gym doesn't affect my life at all and I could/should have left that out of my mini rant. 

But the perfume DOES.
Perfume in a gym or group fitness class is just plain rude.


Now I'd love to know how you feel about the status/ people wearing perfume to the gym-fitness class.

  1. I saw your comment last night on FB. It made me laugh cause it's true. I've thought the same thing when I've been at the gym. Now I'm amused by the fact it caused such a stir in the comments. :)

  2. You bring up a really interesting point. A strong smell in a group class is very annoying. Although, I might be guilty of it myself if my perfume makes it to the end of the day.

  3. If I had saw the post (which I just realized I hadn't liked you yet on FB, but I have now) - I would have said:
    I will agree about perfume, but I am totally guilty of wearing makeup (eye makeup specifically) and always a pair of fake diamond earrings to the gym. I do this to feel better about myself because I sometimes want to cry after i see myself after an intense workout. I can't accept I'm a head sweater and always look a mess, so I try to help ease it a bit ;)

  4. I'm a bit leary of chiming in...

    I'm very guilty of sometimes being judgemental of others but I try to refrain from doing so when it comes to gym situations.

    I never wear make-up to the gym or perfume. But, seeing how I'm insecure because of my size and fitness level - I can see why other's might. I go to the gym for me. I really try not too pay too much attention to others.

    I won't say your not entitled to your thoughts or feelings but when your a role model (and you are) - people put you on a pedestal and you kinda have to filter things.

  5. I read through all the comments as they happened ... I GET being insecure and looking to some makeup to feel a little better ... even I go to the gym with a bit of BB Cream on (I cannot imagine going completely bare faced, it's just not me) but I DO think dousing yourself in perfume for a class is inconsiderate and uncalled for ... maybe she's a gym newbie and doesn't know any better? Next time you see her (or someone else) maybe you can teach them the error of their ways ... ya never know she could be completely clueless that the perfume is offensive!

  7. I never leave the house without foundation, so that includes going to the gym. Since I've got on the foundation, I may as well put on some blush and concealer while I'm at it. And a tinted lip balm, since I must have lip balm on.
    And I am pretty stank when I workout and sweat, so I dab perfume oil in my pits. There are signs all over the gym that perfume is not allowed, but I'd much rather have people complain about my perfume instead of my BO.

  8. If I go to the gym in the morning, I arrive sans make-up. But if I go after work, I don't bother taking my make up off.

    I'm one of those girls that looks completely different when I wear make up - even though I don't wear a lot.
    Oddly enough, I actually took offence to it when I showed up for a baseball game after work and someone said "You look a little too pretty to be playing ball". :)

    I'm guilty of being a gym snarker - but my gym is full of girls that show up to pick up rather than workout. I actually see girls in the change room APPLYING make up pre-workout. God forbid if they actually worked up a sweat.

    All that to say - your site - your opinion. Love it!

  9. It kills me when someone hops on a treadmill next to me wreaking of perfume/cologne/smoke, etc. Sometimes I wish it was mandatory to have someone ELSE give a sniff test before entering... Deoderant is enough. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and many fragrances (lotions/perfumes) so it basically ends my run right then and there whether I was .5 mi in or 9 mi in. Irritates the snot out of me.

  10. I love this and i would have thought the exact same thing, not going to lie. Perfume makes me want to quite in the middle because when i am huffin' and puffin' the last thing i want is to choke on perfume.

  11. I agree with you on the perfume thing.. I usually find guys more guilty of this with cologne than girls with perfume, however, you can never escape the old lady with her heavy heavyyy perfume that you can smell from yards away- but then again I have been running next to those people who clearly forgot the deoderant that am and there is nothing grosser than BO so i guess it depends on the person? As for the "skirts" comment I don't think that is accurate or judgement worthy... I prefer wearing skirts to run in and I am a marathon runner. I find that spandex (dpending on the brand) get annoying when they are by themselves because they constantly ride up but I enjoy having the compression element to spandex shorts so putting a skirt on top is the perfect option because even if they do ride up mid sprint my butt isn't shown to the world because the skirt is covering it... just practical.. as for makeup I wish I cared enough to put it on.. my mom often begs me to put mascara or something on when I am going off to class or out but I really just can't be bothered hah.. If i want to rub my eye I don't want mascara to make me look like a racoon or if i do sweat I don't want it to be full of bronzer.. If other people want to wear makeup to the store, class, or the gym great for them.. but personally I never wear it.
