March AB-ness



Hey there--Me again...2 Posts, 1 Day!
 This time it is with a challenge for all you "sweaters!"

I don't know about all of you but for me, March is a big drinking month. First is my birthday, than every weekend after that is St. Patty's parties. To beat the beer bloat I challenge you all to do this IN ADDITION to any other workout you are doing that day!

What I'm NOT Loving Wednesday






Those of you who are close to me OR follow me on Twitter probably know that I have been having a lot of issues with my acid reflux/heartburn.


For the past 2 months I have had pretty consistent pain and discomfort, and after trying 3 different medicines, all failing, I finally saw a Gastroenterologist last night.





I was hoping that when I explained all of my symptoms he could just diagnose me and wouldn't suggest an Endoscopy, but alas, he did. According to him my acid reflux has either caused ulcers OR I have gallstones. He also mentioned that my workouts, are making it worse.

GOOD NEWS ALL AROUND!! 





So tomorrow morning at 10 am, I am going under the scope. Its an extremely routine test and takes a total of 30 minutes, but let me tell you...I am terrified of being put under.

Last time I had this test done(which was 2006) I  F-R-E-A-K-E-D out on the table as they were administering the anesthesia. I begged him not to do it, I told him that I didn't want to have it done. 


Obviously he ignored me, and I survived.
But that scenario is stuck with me and I am dreading tomorrow.



With that said, if you happen to catch the clock anytime between 9:45 am and 11 am tomorrow, Thursday March 1, send me some good vibes :)

Chocolate Covered Strawberries!

Since I purchased my Cuisinart "Compact smoothie blender," I have used it every-single-day. I've made shakes for not only myself but my mom and best friend/fellow gym rat. 
Everyone is a fan!





As many of you know, I am a bit of a frazzled human being in the mornings. No matter how much planning/prepping I do the night before I am ALWAYS running around like a chicken with its head cut off the next day. 

 

Yesterday was no exception.
I'd blame the fact that it was Monday, but Monday has such a bad rep to begin with, that I feel bad ragging on it.



So instead I blame....

 This website is the devil I tell you.
It sucks you in, eats your time and gives you the worst life ADD ever.

Back to my original point (see I told you pinterest is the devil!)
I was rushing around and had 2 minutes-literally-to make my breakfast
I am out of my PB2, which caused a slight panic but resulted in a delicious alternative


funny how that happens...



Chocolate Covered Strawberry 
Protein Shake

1 cup  unsweetened vanilla almond milk  
(chocolate would work much better, but this is what we had and it worked just fine!)
1 T Flax Seed
4 Fresh Strawberries, halved 
(you can use more or less)
2 scoops Chocolate Whey
5 ice cubes

Blend & Enjoy
Total Time: 47 seconds

 EVERYONE HAS TIME FOR A DELICIOUS HEALTHY SHAKE,
WHEN IT TAKES UNDER A MINUTE TO MAKE!

Fruit Fruit Mondays!

For those of you who don't know what I do outside of blogging, I am a Traffic Coordinator for WEtv in the city that never sleeps.

Sounds fancy right?

It really isn't, I spend 7-8 hours of my day in a little cubicle building logs and chasing down agencies for commercial instructions.





There are some perks of this job though, such as fun parties, long lunches out and my favorite--

Fresh Fruit Monday!

Every Monday the AMC Networks Culture Committee provides our floor with a bowl full of fresh fruit, along with some other healthy snacks.


This was today's offerings, minus a few items. 

I think that this is a great program my company does because not only does it promote healthy eating, it has introduced me to some new snacks!

My favorite is the http://barefruitsnacks.com/ apple chips in cinnamon flavor, they are so addicting and delicious!

Sweat-proof skincare routine!

As a teenager I was blessed with great skin. 
As an adult I was cursed with combination, acne-prone skin with hyperpigmentation.


Not sure how that happened

With acne-prone skin and constant sweat-dripping workouts I needed to perfect my skin care routine to keep everything in check.






I have 6 must have products in order to limit my breakouts:



Sparkly Soul headband
(these are the BEST tool for keeping your hair out of your face both inside and outside of the gym. They DO NOT move!!)
Clairsonic Mia
Makeup Remover cloths
(This is just what I am using now. I change the brand often, trying to find a favorite)
Purity Cleanser
Derma Doctor: Ain't Misbehavin' Facewash
Derma Doctor: Calm, Cool and Corrected Lotion







How I use them:






1.Put hair up in a messy bun (this is crucial) and put on Sparkly Soul headband, then remove all of makeup:





2. Wash my face with the Purity cleanser.
This is the best facial soap for removing all types of make-up!


That is  my amazing fiance who took all of these photos :)




 3. Rinse and dry face completely







4.Apply  "Ain't Miss Behavin'" evenly all over face and let it sit for 2-3 minutes

5. Wet the Clairsonic and move in slow, circular motions allover your face (about two minutes)






6. Rinse and dry face.
(see pictures from step 3 if you forgot what this looks like)


7. Once dry, apply "Calm, Cool and Corrected" evenly all over face.




8. Smile at your beautiful self!




In the mornings I only do steps 4-7, sometimes 8, depending on which side of the bed I wake up on.

Music to move to


Last night I came home from shopping and knew I needed to clean the basement, but had NO motivation. So I did what I always do to get me into the cleaning mood, light my favorite candles and blast(literally) my favorite workout/dance/sing at the top of your lungs playlist.  
I didn't even realize 3 hours had gone by by time I was finished, AND everything was clean/organized.

I truly believe that music is essential to a great workout. Not only can it motivate you to keep moving, it helps you keep your pace.

Sweetheart Smoothie



Happy Valentine's Day!
You are all my valentine's this year and I love each & every one of you!!



This holiday is usually filled with LOTS of chocolates and other delicious sweets.
If you plan on indulging a little-like I do- you should treat yourself to something sweet and healthy as well!






In honor of Valentine's day and my love of anything pink, I present you with:


 


The Sweetheart Smoothie

2 scoops of vanilla protein powder (soy,whey,etc)
2 T flax seed
5 strawberries or 1/4 cup of raspberries OR BOTH!
1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup of ice
Blend and enjoy!

Me, a blender and powdered peanut butter...

I can't believe the weekend has come and gone already! This one went faster than usual because it was jam packed with working out, shopping (6 hours to be exact) sushi and drinks with my girlfriends.


Speaking of shopping, my favorite purchase of the weekend wasn't a clothing item, or a pair of shoes...it was a blender.

Yea I said it, a blender...THIS blender to be exact::


I was debating it for a good 30 minutes in Bed, Bath and Beyond. I kept asking my fiance if it was a silly purchase and a waste of money but in the end this little guy came home with me and I couldn't be happier.


If you're like me and you have no extra time in the mornings, this is your new best friend.
You can blend your shake right in the travel cup!
I know this may not seem exciting to some of you, but to me it was like Christmas had come all over again.



My second favorite purchase of the weekend?

Chocolate PB2



If you've never seen or heard of this product before, here is a little background information:

Preparation is the key!





Last Sunday was the first time in a long time I did not food shop for the week or prep my meals.
As a result I have not eaten properly: I haven't overindulged in junk food or anything like that, but I haven't had healthy, balanced meals either. 



For example this was my dinner Tuesday night:

As you can see there are practically 0 veggies, and very little protein.

People are always asking for weight loss tips and want to know how I have lost forty pounds:

Preparation

So how do I do it?

Sunday morning: I plan what meals I want to make for the week.
When I food shop:I make sure I stock up on lots of veggies, proteins, greek yogurt, and most importantly dark chocolate :)
 Sunday afternoon: I batch cook, mostly breakfasts and lunches for work plus dinner for that night.
Usually I'll be baking chicken in the oven while making protein pancakes or breakfast quinoa on the stovetop
Multitasking at it's best.
It never takes longer than 2-3 hours to make 10 meals (5 breakfast/5 lunch) but it makes all the difference.



Do you prep for the week in advance or take your meals day by day?

It may seem so simple and silly but it really makes all of the difference AND it saves me money.

Early bird gets the workout




That was the motto of this week.
I never thought I would be able to wake up at 4:30 am, get up and get to the gym BEFORE 5 and BEFORE work.


Guess what? 
I've done it twice this week.
(Me on the treadmill at 5 am this morning,hence the weird face)


It isn't as hard as you think, and it feels even better than an after work-workout.
It starts your day in the best way, you're motivated and ready for anything.


You can do it, you just don't want to try.
So my challenge to all of you is to wake up 30 minutes earlier one morning next week, and go to the gym before work or if it's warm walk/run outside.

40 pounds, gone forever...


When my weight-loss/fitness journey began on January 1, 2010 I tipped the scales at an unhealthy 237 pounds. At 23 years old I was considered obese and I had the stretch marks, heart palpitations and eating habits to prove it.

I had known for a long time that I was "fat" but I did not know how heavy I really was. I would buy a loose XL top without thinking twice about it, I was a pro at avoiding scales, and thanks to my height I was always hiding in the back of picture so you could never really see my body.

Then I saw these pictures from my sister's 21st birthday and it changed everything:


I could not believe THAT was what I looked like. I was so beside myself and knew that I needed to take the steps to not only better myself but better my life.
And since that moment I have never looked back.


It has been a long and slow process but on January 28, I weighed in at 197 (a number I am still not comfortable with and cannot believe I am telling all of you this)and reached:

When I started in 2010, I NEVER thought this would happen. It just goes to show you that through hard work and dedication anything is possible.








Here are a few examples of what weighs 40 pounds:

When I look at all of these pictures it really puts this entire journey into prospective. Most of my success is because of my fiance, family and friends-esp my "gym rats". I cannot tell you how many times I have heard I am motivating others because of my success( it doesn't get old) but I really am just doing what I love, and I truly believe that is why I have been so successful so far.  

  
This is the one journey where I have gained while I have lost.
I have learned so much through this journey and I am not done yet. I am putting my personal life out there to not only continue to better myself but to hopefully help just one person. YOU CAN DO THIS. It will be work, but anything that is worth having in life will take work. You just have to take the steps to do it. Never give up and always remember to:
