Thundershirt Review [This one is for the dogs]

As you are reading this I am either en route to FitBloggin' with Gina [burningbabifat], enjoying a tour of the kitchens at McCormick OR having some drinks with some of the best healthy living bloggers around

Today I am not going to talk about, food-healthy living-working out-my knee-nailpolish, basically anything I usually discuss.

Today is all about this guy

Most of you may know him, but for those of you who don't this is Max...also known as "Moo" or "Moo Man"
He's my 5 year old Shih Tzu and love of my life, as well as his brother Chance, of course.

On Tuesday, Long Island was apparently Mother Natures target for bad weather, not sure what we did...but she was pisssssssed.
Tornadoes, crazy winds, rain--the whole shabang
When my mom came to pick me up from the train she had both of my boys with her and told me Max was hiding in the laundry room all day.
He has anxiety, as most dogs[especially small ones] do with weather/noises. Our family dog Brandy used to suffer from this, until she went deaf and mostly blind.
God bless old age, right?

I made a trip to PetSmart to restock Chance's food and decided to talk to one of the employees about the "Thundershirt"
I will be the first to admit I felt this was on of those "made for TV" gimmicks and laughed when I heard people actually bought them. I figured it couldn't hurt to try it out and after she reassured me I could return it, I swiped my card and called it mine, err, Max's.

 It worked.

Granted we fell asleep before the worst part of the storms actually hit, but as soon as I put it on him he was just his normal, relaxed self.
The Thundershirt is not only for storms. It also is used to: avoid barking, minimize hyperactivity, travel anxiety, crate training, etc.
Now I need another one for Chance! Having two furbabies is expensive!

Our next test is to put it on before someone comes to the house. With three dogs living under one roof the excitement of new visitors is sometimes overwhelming and you would think we lived in a kennel.
Barking/jumping/general misbehaving

I wonder if wearing this will tone down some of the craziness.
If so I am buying stock in Thundershirt and promoting it like there is no tomorrow.
PS: They have one for cats too!

..Stay tuned..

Oh, and I'll be back to my regular scheduled posting tomorrow, just had to share this awesome #doggear with all of you!

  9. You think two dogs are expensive? You should try six! I've never heard of thunder shirt before, but now I'm interested. Not for all six, fortunately, but I have one (who's actually pretty big), who is terrified of thunder, and another, who is just basically anxious about everything (and boy does she bark).

Thanks for the tip and review.

  11. I bought one for one of my toy poodles who hates thunder, and shakes in the car and at the vet. I have only gotten to use it once but I really think it worked!

  12. My little cockapoo is so neurotic, he's scared of everything and barks at everything. Thank goodness he's cute because he can get annoying. ;p My parents got him the Thunder Shirt and it worked for the barking related to anxiety, but not the barking at other dogs and every car that passes by our windows. He's just special. ;p

  15. I'm so not surprised it worked. We've had our King Charles Spaniel (also named Max) for 15 years and through the various thunderstorm he feels safe when wrapped in a blanket in our arms or under a bunch of pillows. Must be the feeling of security the shirt gives them. Wish we'd found out about it sooner :)
