Races, Vlogs and YOU

Lots of exciting things happening here in sweaty land, so lets not waste any time::

1.Wednesday night at PT I was given the OK to slowly ease back in my routine.
It was as if the heavens opened up and angels started singing.
To be honest I am not feeling 100% yet, but this weekend I am going to take interval training[one of my favorite classes at my gym] and see how I feel. The class is broken up into cardio and weight blocks, and I know if I don't feel like I can handle a move, I can modify it or worst case scenario...leave.

2. I signed up for 2 5k races in October:
The first one is Saturday 10/21 held right in town and it supports the MPS society

The second is Sunday 10/28 and supports the Seatuck Environmental society.
I signed up for this race last year, and it would have been my first 5k however that was the one and only weekend it snowed on Long Island and I bailed.

This year I'm running it with my girls and we're doing it in costumes so NO excuses, sun/rain/snow/hungover we're doing it, together.

3.  Vlogtober. A bunch of FitFluential ambassadors are participating in this. It's the same as Vlogust, vlogging everyday of the month. I want to know if you think I should do it again, and if I do, what would you like to see videos of?

4. I am making apple chips this weekend in the dehydrator! Very exciting, I know. My mom brought home too many apples and since we are the only two in the house who eat them they'll go bad before we are able to finish them, so chips it is!
**If you have any tips/recipes on how to make them please send them my way and I'll give you a shout out when I post about them :) **

5. LAST BUT NOT LEAST. I want to feature YOU on here.
Do you have a weight loss or fitness journey you would like to share? By reading this blog you know I am a firm believer of never giving up, no matter what we just keep sweating. This is your chance to tell your story and inspire/motivate others.  Whether you're just starting out, just reached your goal, etc.  I want to know about it.  This will only work if you participate.
So please send me your stories and pictures to and we can get the ball rolling.
I really want to make this happen, so lets do this!

Happy Friday Sweaties!

Food porn anyone?

One of the main reasons I love Instagram is the abundance of #foodporn that invades my feed. Almost 100% of the time I am jealous of what someone is eating or that I didn't think to come up with it on my own.

Today I am going to show you 4 of my own creations that have been quite the hit over in instagramland, and if you're not following me yet you are missing out.
Just sayin'

Also try and remember, the ugliest food tastes the best.

First up:
Roasted & shaved brussel sprouts topped with one dippy egg, nutritional yeast and drizzled wing sauce.
This has become one of my go to meals for dinner...or brunch on the weekends. The shaved brussels take almost no time to roast making them a gem to work with.

Then we have the perfect lunch
I call this my mexi-tato:
1/2 cooked sweet potato
3/4 cup black beans
onion crunch [love this stuff]
nutritional yeast

Throw it all on top of, or allover like I do, and pop it in the microwave.

Another great lunch:
Garlic BBQ Chicken Naan Pizza
1 garlic naan[mine is from trader joes freezer section]
1 cup cooked and shredded chicken
2T BBQ sauce
1 slice cheese or shredded
red onion [optional]

Place all ingredients on top of a cooked naan, then place in the oven 5-10 minutes until chicken is warm and cheese is melted

and last but not least, my latest snack creation.
I came up with this hot commodity last night. I had 10 minutes until PT and needed something fast.
Stuffed dates are the [yea I said it] however I didn't have any cream cheese on hand, and wasn't in the mood for PB so I got creative.

1 wedge of garlic & herb laughing cow
6 dates
Slice and smear.

You're welcome.

Life is too short not to enjoy your food, and all of these are CLEAN...except for the naan, sometimes you need to #eatdirty ;)

If you have any food porn for it

Shot-O'Clock? Fitbloggin recap..sort of

Before reading the post below, please remember this is MY personal experience at the conference, no one else's.

So there was a little conference last weekend in Baltimore, Maryland.
You may have heard of it on here...or on one of the other 300 blogs you read.
It was called FitBloggin'

We spent our weekend working out:

 Crossfit with Reebok
 Jumpsport Fitness-Rebounding Class

and eating:
M&S Grill's Cobb Salad sans bleu cheese/bleu cheese dressing

There were amazing seminars about SEO, turning your blog into an article, Youtube, etc.

To be 100% honest, I only sat in on one session and that was Kelly Olexa's.
Not that the other ones didn't interest me, but I was given the opportunity to attend the Natural Products Expo (east) on Friday thanks to my friend Jill Hanner and I missed the only speakers I planned on listening to.
Which was fine by me because I had a BLAST at the expo.

Kayla Harrison, Olympic gold medalist in Judo. She asked if I wanted to hold the medal...I freaked out and said no, which I later regretted. We all know I am not getting a gold medal anytime soon.

Rohan Marley and I...he is a sweetheart, btw.

Oh and at night, I got wiiiild.
There was a lot of this:
(This was taken on Thursday, by Saturday our bartender friend..who I called Jersey, still not sure why, had to open a new bottle)

I'm not sure if it was the lack of responsibility I knew I had or if I was just enjoying my time with people I rarely see/just met but I let my hair down...literally...all weekend.

Life is about balance.
We've discussed that here several times.
I would stay out and party until 12-1am then get up at 7 and participate in the workouts.
Nothing like a good sweat session to kick the booze from your system.

Do I encourage raging three nights in a row?
Absolutely not.
Did I have the time of my life doing it?
You betcha.

All in all Fitbloggin' was a success. I learned more about myself then I did about my blog, which in the end is most important.

If you want REAL recaps from the conference I suggest you  go here

Buluboxes for EVERYONE!

Long time no see!
Life has been CA-RAZAYYYY ever since I left for FitBloggin, which I'll do a mini recap this week but I am sure you're reading too many of them at this point so I don't want to bore you with repeating information.

Instead I want to give you something.
Gifts are always more fun, right?

As you know I love BuluBox, and they're offering to give you your first month FREE if you use the code

Here is what I received in my September box:

That's it!

Edit:: (Thanks Kasey!) Here is the link for Bulu Box

I'll be back to my regular scheduled posting, tomorrow. Just trying to catch up

Spice up YOUR life!

Woohoo it's Friday--Friday gotta get down on Friday!
...yikes, my inner Rebecca Black just came out, sorry you had to witness that...

I am currently in Maryland at FitBloggin and it is awesome. I have already met SO many people and it's only been a few hours. This morning I covered the Reebok Crossfit event.
I had my Nikon, my cell and my camera all in two hands, going at the same time.
That post will be up tomorrow or Sunday so stay tuned for that, video included.

Yesterday I was one of the lucky bloggers who was able to attend the McCormick kitchens and  today you are one of the lucky readers that gets to see the pictures!

We started with lunch, which was perfect because we all came hungry. Traveling can do that to ya.
Everything was healthy, colorful and most importantly...flavorful

Look at all of the beauty on my plate!
How could you not want to eat healthy?

While we were eating they discussed what McCormick is all about

Chef Michael taught us about roasting vegetables, and flavoring our food. How to use juicers for making soup stock and taught us how little olive oil is actually necessary for cooking vegetables.

We spent some time in the kitchens learning how to make some of the dishes we had at lunch.
Have you ever thought of coating your chicken with sweet potato chips, then baking it?
Me either

This hangs in their kitchens and it was one of my favorite parts of the day...besides the eating, of course.

That right there. Is THE BEST cinnamon. No more red top for me, only gourmet.
Seriously, go try'll never go back!

Thank you McCormick for a fantastic day!

Thundershirt Review [This one is for the dogs]

As you are reading this I am either en route to FitBloggin' with Gina [burningbabifat], enjoying a tour of the kitchens at McCormick OR having some drinks with some of the best healthy living bloggers around

Today I am not going to talk about, food-healthy living-working out-my knee-nailpolish, basically anything I usually discuss.

Today is all about this guy

Most of you may know him, but for those of you who don't this is Max...also known as "Moo" or "Moo Man"
He's my 5 year old Shih Tzu and love of my life, as well as his brother Chance, of course.

On Tuesday, Long Island was apparently Mother Natures target for bad weather, not sure what we did...but she was pisssssssed.
Tornadoes, crazy winds, rain--the whole shabang
When my mom came to pick me up from the train she had both of my boys with her and told me Max was hiding in the laundry room all day.
He has anxiety, as most dogs[especially small ones] do with weather/noises. Our family dog Brandy used to suffer from this, until she went deaf and mostly blind.
God bless old age, right?

I made a trip to PetSmart to restock Chance's food and decided to talk to one of the employees about the "Thundershirt"
I will be the first to admit I felt this was on of those "made for TV" gimmicks and laughed when I heard people actually bought them. I figured it couldn't hurt to try it out and after she reassured me I could return it, I swiped my card and called it mine, err, Max's.

 It worked.

Granted we fell asleep before the worst part of the storms actually hit, but as soon as I put it on him he was just his normal, relaxed self.
The Thundershirt is not only for storms. It also is used to: avoid barking, minimize hyperactivity, travel anxiety, crate training, etc.
Now I need another one for Chance! Having two furbabies is expensive!

Our next test is to put it on before someone comes to the house. With three dogs living under one roof the excitement of new visitors is sometimes overwhelming and you would think we lived in a kennel.
Barking/jumping/general misbehaving

I wonder if wearing this will tone down some of the craziness.
If so I am buying stock in Thundershirt and promoting it like there is no tomorrow.
PS: They have one for cats too!

..Stay tuned..

Oh, and I'll be back to my regular scheduled posting tomorrow, just had to share this awesome #doggear with all of you!

Spending time with my new BFF, Jillian Michaels

Ahh the middle of the work week we meet again.
Except today is technically my Friday because I am off to Maryland tomorrow for some Fitbloggin' action!

If you have been reading this blog for awhile you may have noticed I have a slight issue with becoming consumed/focused/obsessed with one thing for an extended period of time.
For example:
TV Marathons on Netflix/my iPad
Fitness Classes
 Book series

My newest obsession: Jillian Michaels podcasts. I have heard about these for awhile in the HLB world but never really understood the obsession behind hers or any podcast. Listening to someone talk for almost an hour? BORING.

However, I am a big JM fan [cannot wait for her return to Biggest Loser in January] so I downloaded a few episodes of "The Jillian Michaels Show"

I was instantly hooked. She is funny and informative, with a side of sass....kind of reminds me of myself.
[whoops sorry for the horn toot sound you just heard] I have spent this entire week talking about her and the things I have already learned, wishing I found these sooner.
She always has tips/tricks for ways to improve all aspects of your life and this morning was about energy boosts. I compiled a few of those tidbits to share with you

Some of these may seem like common sense and some may be new to you. The one that stood out the most to me was avoiding negative conversations.
Spending X amount of time discussing all the stresses of life is mentally exhausting. I have experienced this myself both on and off of this blog over the past 2 weeks. I did not realize how much this was affecting my life until this morning. So, with that said...NO MORE NEGATIVE TALK HERE!

If you are interested in listening to the Jillian Michaels show, they are offered for free via iTunes.

Happy hump day :)

Therapy: Retail and Physical

Andddddd I'm back, and feeling a little better. I swear you guys are the best, the tweets and comments just make me feel so much better about everything.

 This doesn't hurt either ;)

One of the reasons I skip taking a lunch break almost daily is NYC is dangerous for girls with shopping addictions.
I am one of those girls.
No self control so instead I sit in my cubbie for 8 straight hours just to save money.

Yesterday was different. I said screw it. If I can't exercise my body the way I want, I am going to exercise my debit card.

I didn't go too crazy. Just 2 pairs of leggings (2 for $28! what what!) at Victoria's Secret and the hoodie above. The sweatshirt was a die hard necessity because it's long, soft and PINK

I came home from work to a gift from an anonymous person
I knew from the koozie it was from Lauren and it instantly put a smile on my face after a somewhat draining day.

I had a little time before PT so I made myself a fantastic, smelly meal.

One dippy egg on top of a bed of roasted, shaved brussel sprouts and topped with nutritional yeast and onion crunch.
My poor parents hate the smell of brussels AND nutritional yeast...imagine their feelings when they're combined?
I'll be eating this again tonight, it was that good.

Physical Therapy session # 2

We started with electric stim for 10 minutes. It was relaxing and I got to watch The Voice which made me one happy girl.

After that it was workout time!
I started out with 4 exercises laying down:
Lateral raises(bad leg)
Foam roller placed in between my bent legs then squeeze and release(both legs)
Foam roller placed underneath my knees and lateral raise (bad leg)
Lay on my side then side leg raises (bad leg)
Each exercise was performed 30x

Then we moved to the floor where they have a bunch of machines, just like the gym.
I think I was a little too excited to see this because the PT noticed me smiling at the sight.

First up mini bosu ball. I stood on my good leg, trying to balance--WORK THAT CORE!-- while doing 30 side leg raises. However, I have very long legs and kept kicking the wall...I am not a graceful human being, which is why my dreams of becoming a ballerina were killed at the age of 6.
After side raises it was time for back raises.
These HURT. I cannot believe how much these simple moves were affecting my knee [you have a tear and cyst...remember?]  and I felt weak.

Last but not least was step ups with a side leg extension. This time I was stepping up on my bad leg and extending my good one. I was awful at this. My balance was off and again my non-graceful side showed its beautiful face as I wobbled my way into the wall.

While I was getting my deep tissue rub down (which I hate) my PT asked how I was holding up without kickboxing. I told him I went on the treadmill Thursday and Friday, hated my life and avoided stepping foot in the gym all weekend.
To which he replied
"No. You can't do that."
I told him I am a weak individual and I would have ended up in my classes had I went in the gym...we laughed, but I meant it.

He gave me this treadmill walking circuit to try.
I'll be tackling this one tonight.

Firestone just called me. My car needs 3 new tires and rear breaks in order to make it to Maryland this weekend.
That is not my idea of retail therapy.

When it rains, it pours.

I haven't stepped foot in the gym since Friday morning.
I'm having a hard time figuring out my "new" routine, let alone get into it.

I have PT tonight and at the top of the list of things to discuss is what can I do?
There has been too much "I can't" in my vocabulary as of late and it's making me crazy.

Fitbloggin' is this week and it couldn't come at a better time.
I'm feeling a bit lost right now, like my world has been turned upside down and I just cannot get out of my own head.
The gym is where I let out lifes frustrations, and right now I feel like I can't do that which is making things worse.

Bear with me this week.
Life is crazy.

Commercial Break Workout & Fall TV!

Now that Fall TV shows are starting to grace us with their presence I wanted to strike up a convo and see what some of your favorites are.

But first and foremost, this is a healthy living blog and it's Fitness Friday so I had to incorporate a new circuit for you to try while watching the boob tube:

Also if you can tell me why it is referred to as that, you get 10 points.
The points don't mean anything, so feel free to ignore my request.

[don't forget to pin!]

Back to the TV talk:

I am a big Glee fan[ last nights premiere was so good] which you know if you read my about me. I never miss an episode, it's also DVRed and most weeks I watch it again before deleting.
I'll be the first to admit, I have problems.

In addition to gleeking out, I love Modern Family-Dexter-Vampire Diaries-The Voice-Revenge-Shameless and American Horror Story.

I watched the first two episodes of The New Normal [NBC] and already love it. You may be able to see a trend, anything Ryan Murphy touches is gold to me.

Your turn!
What are some your favorite shows?
Are there any new ones you're looking forward to checking out?
