I've been bullied

It has happened to most of us.
We have been the victim of bullying one way or another.

I thought this kind of behavior would end after my middle school/high school days and until this week that has been the case.

Saturday was one of the best days of my life so far.
Covered in color, laughing non-stop. It was awesome.

Then I came home and read a comment from one of my VEDA vlogs:

"Now I see why you're still fat....I was like how are you still big and you run so much? Now I see why! If you'd clean up your diet and lose the fat, your arms and legs wouldnt be so fat! Also, your face would clear up too, fro yo isnt the answer!"

I sat there and stared at that comment for awhile.
I texted a picture of it to 4 people, Eddie-Alison-Lauren-Mom
All of them had the same reaction that I did, "How could someone be SO mean?"

Alison brought up a good point as we were texting back and forth, she said " Unfortunately it comes with the territory of putting yourself online."

She's right.
BUT that should not be the case.
I should not be worrying about screen names attacking my weight, OR my body.

This morning I woke up to another comment on my VEDA vlog from last night :

"You're a chunky something lol look at those thunder thighs and big ol arms......upper body work will prob do u good! Damn girl I didn't know you were that big!"

This time I laughed.
How could someone who knows NOTHING about me say such hurtful things.

YouTube has become one of the most common places for rude people to congregate and attack.
With websites like GOMI and Trash a Guru people are being picked apart on a daily basis for no other reason then putting themselves online.

That is bullshit.
Why would someone think it is okay to make up a screen name, hide behind a computer and bully others?

I think about all of the things I don't like about my body on a daily basis.
I started a blog to CHANGE those things and document my progress.
If you don't like me or my videos, stop reading/watching.

I do not need some fake account pointing out my flaws or exposing my insecurities.
We do that enough to ourselves.

It's sad that this is the world we live in.

Fortunately enough I am stronger then those words. I know better then to let them affect me in a negative way, even though it may not sound that way right now.
What worries me is those who are not as strong.
The teenagers who are bullied every single day for being themselves.

It's wrong and it HAS to stop.

If you have been bullied on the Internet or otherwise, please know you are not alone.
You are better then those words.
Better then those people.
And I am behind you 100%.

Don't ever hesitate to email/tweet/facebook me, I will listen :)

I love you all!

The results are in...

And I tore my meniscus.

Way to go knee!

I am going to speak with the doctor,  and get a second opinion...I really do not want to get surgery.

In the mean time no running, and modifications in my current workout schedule.

I am less then happy right now, but it isn't the end of the world.

Send me links to your best, low impact workouts-upper body-weights, anything.

Bye Bye Power X, Hello Fantasy Football!

Power X was bittersweet tonight.
For starters I have never pushed myself so hard and felt so strong, even with my current knee issue.
My trainer complimented me more then once on my strength/endurance which always pushes me to perform even better.
A year ago I was terrified of this class, and now it is one of my favorite ways to sweat.

Unfortunately it is my last class until next summer.
Due to the sun setting earlier the class is moved from 6 & 6:30 to 5:30 & 6, just one more reason I need to find a 9-5 job on the island.
Commuting cuts into a lot of my workout time, and it makes me crazy.
Yes I am THAT crazy about my fitness classes, but if you were working out with my trainer you would do everything in your power to make all of her classes too.

So now I am sitting here at 8:40 fighting to stay awake because Eddie & I joined a fantasy football league and the draft is tonight, at 10:30.
That is really late for this grandma, but thankfully I have cookie butter to keep me awake.

I don't know the first thing about fantasy football, but it's something I have always wanted to be a part of and once Eddie said he was on board to be a team we were set.

Should be an interesting night for me.

Question of the night:
What is your favorite football team?
Are you in a fantasy football league?

Loud Noises!!

Last night I spent a lot of time inside this:

What better way to spend a Tuesday night after a long day at work?

I had the option to move my MRI up a week and when thinking it over this is what went through my mind:
-Tuesdays are rest days (usually, and subject to change)
--I have my authorization code so lets see if there is an opening
---The sooner I find out what is wrong, the sooner I fix it

I love when things come together.

The experience itself was....interesting.

I didn't realize how nervous I was until I was laying on the table.I tried to pretend it was a tanning bed but it was so cold and loud I could not keep calm.
The noises were the worst part.
It sounded like two robots were fighting while a plane was trying to take off.
I walked out of there with knee pain and a headache.

I should know the results by Friday.

I came home to one of my favorite dinners

Thanks to Eddie I enjoyed this big greek salad while watching the PLL summer finale.
Did any of you watch? It was CRAY!
No spoilers here, but GO WATCH THAT SHOW.

I have Power X tonight, here's hoping my brace helps me get through the workout, I'll check in later and let you know how it goes.

Happy Hump Day!

Bistro Inspired Lunch

Last we spoke I was off to the gym for the elevated training class.
I have mentioned before that I imagine this is similar to Body Pump classes many other gyms offer.

I usually use 6 risers, 3 on each side but I decided to literally take it down a notch due to my knee and use only 4.
I increased my body bar weight and used the 18 pounder, and 5 & 8lb dumbbells (standard for me).

We had a sub last night and she was awesome, I felt the burn even with my own modifications and left super sweaty.

However, when I came home Eddie was working out in the basement so I suggested working out together.
We ended up doing 60 minutes of kickboxing drills and jump rope circuits.

My Tone It Up tank held up through a sweaty 2 hour workout.
This picture was taken before hand...I was a mess afterward, I promise.

After my shower I decided to try out one of my newest nail polish purchases and thought I would share it with all of you #girlygirls out there.

The color is part of Maybelline's Fall/Mercedes Benz fashion week line, "Metal Icon"

Today I am back at work, my sinus infection is a little better thanks to meds and my knee is sore. Thankfully I spend 8 hours sitting in a chair.
Now you all realize why I workout as much as I do, sitting here just makes me feel fat and frumpy.
I need to #MOVE!

For lunch today I got a little creative:
I call this my "bistro inspired" sandwich.
*100 calorie sandwich thin, multigrain
*Laughing Cow wedge
*Boar's Head chicken
*Green apple

I was thinking of a brie and green apple panini, so this is the next best thing to enjoy here in my cubicle.

Now that I am all caught up on Pretty Little Liars {SUMMER FINALE IS TONIGHT!} do you have any Netflix TV suggestions?

I guess I could always read Gone Girl while I eat.
I am halfway through and it is intense!

Questions of the day:
-What is your favorite bring-to-work lunch?
-What is your all time favorite TV show?

Mine is probably Full House. I just love it.

Salad Accessories

Is it really lunchtime already?
I swear time really DOES fly some days.

Yesterday I stocked up on lots of salad "accessories"(toppings) to get me through the work week.

The biggest tip for healthy eating/living is making sure you never get bored with meals.
Variety is key!

In the bowl:
*grilled chicken that was marinated in Italian dressing
*sunflower seeds
*sugar snap peas
*cherry tomatoes

On top:
This dressing is fantabulous, I found it during a Whole Foods trip on Saturday and even though we have several dressings in our fridge at the moment this one will be getting lots of use.

Knee Update:

I mentioned this morning I was going to the Orthopedic to talk to them about my current knee pain/issues.

Thankfully Lauren works at the office I went to because all of the doctors understood the workouts I do on regular basis before I even explained the issue I was having.

They did X-rays which came back normal so I am being sent for an MRI which is next Tuesday night. The PA thinks it may be a meniscus tear which would require surgery.
I highly doubt that is the situation. I am not in that much pain but I guess you never know?

In the meantime he told me to rest it when I can and take advil/ice it. I plan on sticking to my regular workouts, modifying moves as needed.

Speaking of workouts, it's time for Elevated Training!

Sunday Sweat & Chocolate Balls

I am home sick today, my cold progressed over the weekend so I am writing this post from the comfort of my own bed...which just so happens to be covered in tissues.

Sunday completely got away from me.
Actually, this entire weekend got away from me.

Between the Color Run on Saturday and batch cooking/food shopping yesterday I lost track of time and ended up in bed at 7 pm. I had 3 episodes of the current season left of Pretty Little Liars, so I wanted to be ready for the Summer finale tomorrow night!

Lets recap some of my Sunday

The weather was perfect yesterday. It felt like fall so I took full advantage and rode my bike to kickboxing.

My knee was feeling better so I thought I would be okay to add in some additional cardio to my day.
By the time I got to the gym it started to bother me a bit but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle so I got my sweat on in a major way.
Check out that proof!

I came home feeling energized and ready to take on the day.

My energy transformed into creativity and I made pumpkin and banana protein bread.
Baking is not my forte but this recipe actually worked!
Let me know if you would like me to share it

After tackling some laundry and food shopping I invited Lauren over to batch cook some gluten free meals for the week. She is still navigating her way through what she can and cannot eat, so I thought two brains would be better then one!
We ended up making breakfast-lunch-dinner and a snack for 4 days.
Talk about kicking butt in the kitchen.

Quick and Easy Chocolate Balls recipe
{clean,vegan,gluten free}
Makes 18 balls

1 1/2 cups pitted dates, chopped
1/2 cup almonds
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (we used Hershey's)
1/3 cup unsweetened coconut flakes

Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until a "dough" forms
Roll into 1 1/2-2 inch balls and place in freezer
In an hour or so remove from freezer and enjoy!

These were a hit at the impromptu BBQ my parents hosted last night, my dad even loved them.
He's a picky eater and does not understand most of the healthy foods I bring into the house
For example: coconut flour, flax seeds, chia seeds...the list continues

So you can imagine how happy I was that he liked my healthy snack!

Since I am home sick today I will be going to get my knee looked at, finally in addition to going to my regular doctor to hopefully kick this cold/sinus infection to the curb. I have been fighting it for the past week but I think it's time for some meds.

I'll check in later and let you know what happens at the orthopedic, fingers crossed it's nothing serious!

COLOR RUN RECAP {picture heavy}

Today I was part of the "happiest 5k on the planet."
I am finding it hard to put into words just how great the Color Run was.

After you read this post.. go to the website, find a race near you if there are none this year look for 2013 and sign up.

I had more fun at this race then I had anticipated.
You can imagine how excited I was since I have been looking forward to it since January.

I woke up at 4:30 am, got myself dressed and hit the road with Lauren by 5:15.

We arrived in Brooklyn just as the sun was rising around 6:30. Parking was easier then I had expected, I like to think it is because I am so organized and arrived earlier then necessary.
Just let me think that, okay?

I LOVE free swag and the Color Run did not disappoint.

I'd like to take a moment and introduce some of the Just Keep Sweating team for the race:

Here is my trusty sidekick Lauren aka @lowla017 all geared up and ready to go.
Originally I made fun of her for her fanny pack and then realized it was a genius move.

Then there is Gina aka @burningbabifat in all her Grandma glory. Leopard sunglasses and a plastic bonnet to protect her hair.
Gotta love it

Lauren, Me, Monica, Diana(@rey1diana, she is training for the NYC Marathon and sharing it on gina's blog) and Gina

You may remember them from my first 5k back in April
However we were missing Becky due to a much needed vaca.
Happy for her...sad for us.

We lined up around 7:30 and made it into the first wave of the race.

I'm not sure if it was the blasting music or excitement to get to each color station but I was running fast.
Or at least it felt that way.

There were four color stations in total, every 1/2 mile was a different one.

The blue station got me right in the mouth.
It was awful. I spent a good 1/2 mile spitting out blue corn starch.

My fellow "sweaty" Rachael (@ready2getsweaty) who is an absolute sweetheart. I loved meeting/running with her!

My one goal for this race (besides avoiding any knee issues) was to be covered in color from head to toe.

Goal met.

The Color Run really outdid themselves with food/drink vendors.

 A SLURPEE truck!!

The frozen yogurt bars were amazing, if you ever have a chance to try them--don't hesitate, pull a Nike.

Fresh fruit and coconut water PERFECT post run fuel

This was taken while the crowd was throwing their color packets into the air, it was awesome to witness.

Dear Color Run,
Thank you for being even better then I had expected.
I had one of the best days of my life so far.
Laughing, sweating and making memories with some of my best friends.
I WILL be there next year for team Just Keep Sweating round 2
Love, Me.

PS Here is the vlog I shot with some of the events

Twas the night before the Color Run

Tomorrow is the big day
How long have I been talking [blogging] about this 5k?
Probably since my first in April

I am setting a new PR tomorrow:
Getting up before 5 am on a Saturday to sweat.

I'll have my trusty sidekick with me for our travel into Brooklyn.
As well as Venti coffees from Starbucks, obvs.
There we are meeting up with the rest of our group including fellow gymrat Gina (@burningbabifat) and Rachael (@ready2getsweaty) who I've never met before!

All I have heard is how amazing of an experience this race is/will be, which is only adding to my excitement.
I feel like a child on Christmas eve.

Tonight I will be painting my nails different shades of bright colors, making my tank top
and laying out the rest of my outfit, aka pink sunglasses and old pants.

I'll be back later with pictures of both, don't you worry.
If you are attending the Color Run tomorrow let me know, tweet me (@juskeepsweating) I want to meet/take pictures with you.
Don't be shy

Happy Friday

Snackity Snack

This morning as I was haphazardly throwing things into my lunch box
...I didn't prep my food last night, I had a date with the PLL girls-They are taking over my life...
I discovered I was out of yogurt/granola/hummus..basically all of my snacks.

I had 3 minutes before I needed to leave for the train and still needed to make my coffee, brush my teeth, feed Chance (little fatty can never wait for food) and come up with a healthy snack.

My AM cardio comes in the form of rushing around for 15 minutes getting my act together.
Slamming cabinets, grabbing food containers and reaching for things on high shelves is my AM strength training.
Stick with me kids, I'll get you in shape in no time.

Back to the point.
I threw 4 ingredients together for a healthy, on the go-protein snack

1/4 cup raw almonds
1/8 cup(each) raisins, vegan carob chips & chopped walnuts

Perfect snack to hold me over until lunch. To be honest it may be too much and I'll have it for both my mid-morning and afternoon snack.

In other news, I cannot stop reading Gone Girl. Apparently murder mysteries are my "thing" right now between Pretty Little Liars and the book I am having some crazy dreams.

This morning I was leaving the house and noticed my moms beach hat was on top of her car.
Which launched my brain into: Who, What, When, Why?
Clearly I need to spend some down time doing something else before I turn into Harriet the Spy.

Mental games: My body VS My brain

On the train ride home last night I decided to skip my planned workout.
In this weeks workout plan I scheduled NTC for Tuesday.
However, my body was tired from a combination of fighting a cold (my body is winning!) and getting back into the swing of things after STAYCATION 2012.

I decided black bean soup from Panera in a bread bowl while watching Pretty Little Liars(<--latest obsession) was better than sweating.

It wasn't until I realized I had eaten the bread bowl {I've never done that before} that I said to myself ::outloud:: "Get off your lazy booty and watch this show while working out."

Me, my PLL gals and the treadmill had an "okay" time together.
My knee still does not want to run{lazy knee} so I alternated running and wogging.
Definition of Wogging- Walk/Jogging, it's it.

In the end I did 2.3 miles in 32 minutes.
Not great, especially when that is my current 5k time.

(how awesome is that blurry picture? Yea I hate my Otterbox)

Regardless of any pain/problems I felt better about myself.
I worked out even though I didn't want too.
My body BEAT my brain.

It's crazy how easily we can talk ourselves out of working out, but talking ourselves into it is a constant battle.
Lets change that?

Today I will be picking up a knee brace and trying it out in hopes it does something for my current pain issue.
I miss running.
{Still cannot believe I say things like that}

  • Has your body ever beat your brain?
  • What do you do to pass the time on a "dreadmill"?
