5 things to avoid in group fitness classes

Since it's only Tuesday, this picture is appropriate for us all.

A few weeks ago one of my favorite blends (blogger-friend, for those of you who may not be in the know) asked me to do a guest post over on their page.

Not only did I feel honored but I was shocked.

I'm still shocked at how many people follow me in general

SO with that being said please hop on over to visit Pavement Runner's page and learn my TOP 5 fitness class etiquette tips.

I am one classy lady so you know I have some tips even the Queen would approve of.

I will be back tomorrow with TWO new recipes and a recap of my first run in my brooks!

Here's a vlog teaser:

ALSO let me know how you feel about me participating in VEDA.

Fail to plan-plan to fail {challenge for YOU}

My morning started off with this face

Practically begging me to stay home and snuggle with him all day.
Mommas gotta work Max so she can buy you and your brother things like chewies and toys to destroy

It's Monday which means a new week,
and a new week means a new workout plan!

I am still trying to figure out the best way to share my workout schedule VS actual workouts with all of you, so bare with me.

First lets see how last week went:

As you can see I planned a lot more for myself than I actually ended up doing.
My runs were much less than anticipated because of my sneaker issue, now that that is resolved I should have no problems making up the mileage.

In total I had 6 1/2 hours of workouts planned, and I ended up doing 5 1/2.
Not too shabby

This week I planned a little less:

I have 6 days of exercise with 8 workouts planned in total.
It should be around 7 hours of exercise, if I am doing my math correctly..which I am probably not.
Whatever happens, happens.

I spent 2 hours prepping meals for the week yesterday afternoon.
It made this morning much less stressful.

These are the meals I packed for work.
Breakfast: Blueberry Coconut Overnight Oats (recipe to come)
Snack 1: Fage Greek yogurt with honey, sliced strawberries and blueberries to mix in
Lunch: Salad topped with chickpeas, green apple and red wine vinaigrette as dressing
Snack 2 (pre-run): Think Thin bar in peanut butter

My dinner plan is Italian style tofu
I will post the recipe for this sometime this week

I was reading this months SELF magazine (one of my favorites) on the train this morning and came across a new exercise move to share
I challenge ALL of you to try this at some point this week and let me know how it goes!

My plan is to do this after my run tonight, I'll report back later.
It will be my first run in my new brooks!!

Run Happy

I have had such a great day today.

If you have been busy enjoying your weekend, unplugged from the Internet world..here is what you've missed so far:

Max decided I needed to wake up at 5:30 this morning, which I was less than thrilled about.
After several failed attempts at going back to sleep I decided it wasn't worth the fight and I got myself ready for the gym.

I was not expecting to be as sore as I am from yesterday's bootcamp. #PROOF you can kick your own butt!

Sore or not, I was going to weights & kickboxing.
It was an awesome 90 minutes of pure sweat.

After the gym I began my journey for new running sneakers...again.
Lauren was in the market for a new pair as well so she tagged along.
(p.s she's training for her first half marathon, follow her on twitter @lowla017)

The store didn't open until noon so we did a little shopping at one of my favorite local boutiques first.

I could not resist this wallet.
It's pink AND it has a bow.. meant to be.

I also spotted this bag, which I am currently swooning over:

If anyone just so happens to be in Ooh La La in Sayville and wants to get this beauty for me...I won't hate it.

We made our way to the running store, and arrived just in time to hear the door unlock
and we were greeted with this sign.

We had the nicest guy helping us.
To start he put me on a machine and my first question was
This this isn't going to weigh me...right?
Everyone laughed and thankfully he said no.
Bullet dodged.

According to this handy dandy machine( anyone remember Blue's Clues?) I am completely off balance. I put almost all of my weight in my left foot with most of my pressure in the heel.

This was extremely interesting to me because my left ankle is the one I broke two summers ago AND it bothers me on a constant basis still to this day.
I also have really high arches and overpronate.

Fun Fact:My little running store buddy told me 70% of runners suffer from both of these things.
YAY for being semi-normal!!

 The search began.

I tried on a pair of Sauconys first.
I instantly fell in love with them because they were hot pink and black.
Which sparked a brillant idea by me that I shared with my running store buddy

They should have everyone try the sneakers on blindfolded, that way you don't base them off of the look and really focus on their feel.

I know what you're thinking... why didn't this girl go to Harvard?

Unfortunately for me they didn't feel right, so they stayed in the store.
After trying on 3 pairs of shoes, running/ dancing around the store I found the perfect pair

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12

I spruced them up with some matching purple laces and I cannot WAIT to take them out for a run Monday night.
I picked up my very first NUUN as well in Strawberry Lemonade flavor!
Can anyone tell me WHEN I should have this in my water?

We decided to roam around the town a little more since we had no real plans for the day and stumbled upon the greatest store that has ever existed.

It's called The Crushed Olive.
Inside the store is over 50 different flavors of olive oil and balsamic vinegars for you two sample, mix, and buy.

We were in heaven.

I came home with a bottle of the coconut white balsamic, to which I had with both cucumbers and strawberries.

Now I am ending my weekend the same way I started it,
FRO-YO on the couch while watching the Olympics.

How was your weekend?

Strawberry Smiles & Giveaway WINNER!

Right after I left you this morning I was a busy little bee.
I had extra time to sit and actually enjoy my breakfast, so I had some fun with it.

2 whole wheat waffles topped with coconut peanut butter, flax seed, shredded unsweetened coconut and drizzle-o-honey.
Served with a strawberry smile.

My belly was so happy after this meal.
I texted Gurgles and Jaques with an idea for our workout for the day.
Becky has a TRX so I knew I wanted to incorporate that into the workout and she mentioned last night that she wanted to do Jump & Drill moves.

The three of us met up at the tennis courts and came up with a boot camp style plan.

Not only did we have a great workout, but we had fun doing it.
The boot camp took us about 50 minutes so we ended with 10 minutes of abs.

By now everyone in the entire world knows my love of GNC's egg protein powder, it's all I tweet about.
Can you imagine how much I actually TALK about it?

I talk about it so much that both Becky and Lauren decided to pick some up after our workout.
Which made me a happy sweaty!

I still have some left so I made myself a shake post workout, before heading to the post office to mail a very special( and long overdue) package to my best friend

come home soon, please?

AND I finally got a PO box!
I never thought it would be something that people would ask me for but it has come up a lot lately so I figured why not.

There it is for all of you who have asked :)

I spent most of my day cleaning, putting away laundry...you know the Cinderella life?
The Asics went BACK to the store and I also stocked up on some goodies for the week.

Now it's time to announce the winner of the Blender Bottle giveaway.
I LOVED every single one of your pictures SO much.
sweaty pic = rockstar in my world.

Fro-yo with Dory, Gurgle & Jaques

I cannot even begin express my gratitude for the overwhelming amount of love I have received over the past 48 hours.
You all inspire me every single day.
You motivate me.
Push me.
Make me smile.
I could really go on and on...but I won't, for your sake.
Instead I'll just say THANK YOU.

Last night the girls and I had plans to eat fro-yo and watch the Olympics.

But before I could indulge in the frozen yogurt goodness, I had to take my Asics out for another test run.

I've decided they're going back to the store.
We're just not made for each other.
Sorry sneakers, it's you..not me.

Although it wasn't my best, I got my run in which was what was most important.
I cleared my head and shed some major sweat, mostly due to humidity...but let's pretend it was from working SO hard.

Clearly, I earned this fro...YO.

It only took 5 minutes of watching the Olympic opener for us all to decide we would rather channel surf and find something better.

And we did

Finding Nemo was on the Disney channel for the first time in I don't even know how long
(it is not a channel I frequent too often)

For those of you who may not know: Just Keep Sweating was inspired by Dory's "Just Keep Swimming" song.
She was Marlin's inspiration to never give up on his journey to find Nemo.
No matter how many sea creatures they encountered, she kept pushing him along.

Which turned into my inspiration to never give up on my weight loss & fitness journey.

While watching the movie we decided Lauren will now be referred to as "Gurgle," who is the germaphobic fish that lives in the tank.

Becky said she wants to be the shrimp, Jacques, because of his accent.

what can I say, I make people's nickname dreams come true.

Last night I sat on the couch for 2 hours with a huge smile on my face.
I still remember every line and sang along every time they sang
"just keep swimming, just keep swimming."

And that is what I intend to do,
only replace the swimming with sweating.

Speaking of sweating...it's time for my Saturday morning workout!
I'll be back later to announce the blender bottle giveaway winner.

Again, thank you all...for everything.

Not comfortable in my skin

The past two or three weeks I have not felt like myself.

My motivation to sweat is not there.
My happiness while working out is almost non-existent.

I am trying to change things up and push through it, but the fact of the matter is:

I am not comfortable in my skin.

I haven't felt this way since I started my journey back in 2009 at a whopping 236 pounds.

I've lost 50lbs in 2 years and I've been happy with that.

Until a few weeks ago.
I am constantly finding things I don't like about myself.

When something is bothering me I internalize it.
I hate opening up and having real conversations face to face.
I'd rather be bitchy and write you off.

It's rude but it's the truth.
It's also something I know, but cannot control
It's who I am.

Last night at the gym my unhappiness reared it's ugly head.
I was watching myself jump rope and said out loud "all I see is jiggle."

Lauren and I hopped into Kickboxing 20 minutes late after doing the "sweaty & I know it" circuit.
The entire time I was comparing myself to every person in the room.

Tight bodies of every age surrounds me on a constant basis.
I work just as hard.
I push just as much.
But here I am 2 years later and nothing is changing.

I left the gym and broke down.
I can't pretend I am happy when I'm not.

For those of you still reading or who watched the vlog, thank you.

I am hoping to kick myself out of this funk really soon because

Being uncomfortable in your own skin is the worst feeling and I do not wish it on anyone.

I love you all.
Tomorrow WILL be better.

So you want to sweat like me?

You guys(and by guys I mean ladies AND gents) really know how to make a girl feel good about herself.

I was really dramatic in my crappy run post, sometimes I pretend I am an actress and it really came through last night.

Today is a new day which means I'm moving on.
Not every run is going to be great, I've been spoiled thus far and I need to learn from the bad runs to make the good runs even better.

I just went Dr.Seuss on ya'll...kind of.

As promised I have a new circuit for all of you to try.
WARNING: It WILL make you sweat.
EXTRA WARNING: I am not a doctor or a personal trainer...just a girl with a blog who likes to workout. Please take this into consideration before trying anything I post!

for those of you thinking
What the heck is a clock lunge?

or saying

UM, Dive Bomber Push-Ups...never heard of it...

Also I am going to be updating the sweaties section this weekend will all of your Instagram submissions for the Blenderbottle giveaway.

NOTE: if your instagram account is private, I cannot see the pictures even if you are tagging me in them.

The giveaway is open until Saturday 10am EST, simply because I am LOVING the pictures!
Keep Sending, Keep Sweating.

My new asics & getting caught in the rain

I just got back from the worst run

I think there are a few reasons this run was so sucktastic, so let's go over each one...in detail.

I tried a new protein bar for some pre-run fuel.
It had an awful taste, but I ate it anyway.

When I got home I made many failed attempts to pump myself up for my scheduled 4 miles.
I just was not in the mood.

Finally I hit the pavement.
Only to have half of my right foot go numb 1/4 mile in due to my nike+ on my shoelaces.
I tried fixing it three times before taking it off the shoe completely.

I changed up my route hoping to push myself to run my furthest distance yet.
After a mile and a half I had the WORST cramps in my stomach and ribs.
I'm not sure if it was the new kicks or the new bar but it was ruining my breathing, thus ruining my run.

By the time I reached 2 1/2 miles I couldn't take it anymore.
I started walking.
However, the running gods had another plan in mind and at the exact same time I started to walk...it started to downpour.

So I started running again until I made it home.

2.8 crappy miles in my new sneakers.
Which I am not 100% sold on yet.
Depending on Friday and Saturdays runs go I may be returning them.
So stay tuned for that update.

This is the face of a pissed off sweaty.
I really hate when I have bad workouts.

I am also having a PopTart while I write this, I thought it would help.
It isn't.
Now I'm even more pissed I ate the damn PopTart.
It just isn't my night.

Why do bad runs happen to good people?

Olympics Fever

The Olympics are almost here!
 I am beyond excited.

Little Fun Fact: My father worked on not one, but TWO olympic games. I have a jacket from the 1988 Seoul games...unfortunately it no longer fits as I was only 2 at the time.

You did know I was going to grow up, right Dad?

I have always preferred the summer Olympics to the winter.
Mostly because of women's gymnastics and men's swimming.

I also am not the best at winter sports (I may have crashed into a wall while skiing as well as friends[keryn] growing up) so I am biased.

But this year is the FIRST year for women's boxing, and that may be just as exciting to me as gymnastics!
I think I will become a boxer in my next life.
Sometimes I just get the urge to punch things...like cereal boxes in the food store.

I'm not sure about any of you but I will be sitting in front of the TV watching the opening ceremonies Friday night at 7:30... I told you I was excited.

Are you excited for the Olympics?
What is your favorite event?

Workout Schedule VS Actual Workouts

Work- full time
School- part time
Blog- all the time
Workout- 5-6x a week
Fiance/Family/Dogs/Friends/Social life- sometime in between
Chores- sorry Eddie, no time for that ;)

I am a busy girl.
Sometimes I don't make my workouts because I am tired.
There are days I don't realize why I am so tired and I beat myself up over skipped workouts.

I am starting something new for myself.
Planning my workouts and writing them down.
Comparing my estimated workouts to what actually happens.
There is no rhyme or reason to this other than I like having lists, crossing things off, adding things, and writing with colorful markers.

Because I like posting every little thing I do on here, I thought it would be fun to share with all of you.
I also want to encourage all of you to try it.
So this was last weeks estimates VS actual.

I worked out 5 days instead of the scheduled 6, but only missed my estimated total time by an hour.
I'd say I owned the week in workouts.

This weeks scheduled workouts.
I will share what actually happened next Monday, along with the plan for that week.

Monday is always a rest day for me, UNLESS I have something one of the other days that week then I will adjust accordingly.

If I miss a workout, the world will not end...

If this is something you would like me to share on a consistent basis please let me know, I will work on making it more "official" looking.
Because on JKS we're all about professionalism.

Anyway give me some feedback, some ideas, some desires.
Or simply don't leave a comment.

Either way, it's all good!
